Ruling by the Feds: Fuck You, Steve Jobs

Caveat emptor.
Re: Ruling by the Feds: Fuck You, Steve Jobs
Really I think Apple's only interest in this rests firmly on their reputation for stability. They can throw out all the legal terms on this that they want but ultimately they don't want mass bad press about iPhones not working when the source of the problem comes from jail BROKEN iPhones. They know a good amount of people won't bother reading or knowing that the phones were hacked. They'll just think all iPhones are fucked.H20nly wrote:^![]()
@ LSZ... thats a nasty side effect that. lolz at Steve but, for the paying customer like you and others here, its lame in the sense that it affects your experience and price points like software piracy affects actual paying customers in the big boy app industry.
Re: Ruling by the Feds: Fuck You, Steve Jobs
^ thats a good point. the reason they herd and guide everyone like sheep or cattle is so they can maintain their image and the illusion of better that goes so well with shiny. They do this really well and I'm not trying to be funny or facetious. It is what it is, but one thing is for sure, it is a strength in the eyes of the stockholders and the bottom line on the books. Like you say though, people don't take the time to discern the why or how. They tend to associate things with branding and quick references.
its not my phone - its my iPhone
its not a car - its the beemer
they're not jeans - they're Luckys
its not cola - its Coke
and so on...
so when 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 year olds start screaming about "this piece of shit iPhone" that they have encumbered to within a standstill with ridiculous amounts of shit apps and media they won't blame themselves... they'll blame the phone and ultimately Apple.
In a few years from now there'll be threads about some new phone/pad/controller or other I/O device(s)... and on... and on... and on... but right now... Apple is at bat*
* penalty kicks or other sports analogy...

they say it's to better provide quality, but by maintaining a closed environment they make SERIOUS scrilla on their cut of app sales and ads. They may even take a smaller profit margin (if any) on the hardware because of this. econommics..... Think consoles & video games.
Now that it's legal to jail break your iPhone, I imagine many more people will be getting involved in that process without fear of legal reprisals. The knowledge will accumulate, open-sourcers will fill the support void and the people will rejoice.
kind of unrelated, but if making a hackintosh was legal there would be tonnes more in existance. imo.

Reminds me of the Vista debacle. People upgrading their PC's w/ the absolute minimum requirements wondering why their PC bombed after the 'upgrade'. But it wasn't 'their' fault, it had to be the OS. Here I am 2 yrs later still rocking Vista on 2 machines and never having a single issue w/ it.H20nly wrote:

Can't blame him. If I had his level of success I'd either be insane, an insufferable prick, or both.Rave wrote:I think he is a tosser but most ruthless and successful business men are.

I cannot fathom any circumstances in which I'd need to jailbreak my iPhone. Colour me crazy, but if I'm at the point in which my life is so fucking dull that I'd need to jailbreak my iPhone in order to run some goofy tethering app or connect to my neighbor's satellite TV I'll be blowing my fucking brains out anyway.
I came for the

Not only did Steve co-found Apple but he also walked away only to come back and lift it out of the shitter to levels that have never before been seen. Only one other man in history has aspired to such greatness: Jesus. And he still hasn't shown up for round 2.aqua_tek wrote:Can't blame him. beats... funny side note: I still work at the place Jobs "discovered" the gui at.
Gates and windows didn't invent the idea either. Xerox PARC did WAAAAAAAAAAY before these guys came along. These guys just peddled it better. History is a funny thing. Steve didn't steal the "mouse" from PARC either... we actually nabbed it from a stanford guy and slapped it on a STAR!
strange how collaboration works eh?
