Cool shit man. Any clue as to why Xerox didn't just go ahead and kick Apples and Microsoft's asses at the game? Story I heard was Apple started grabbing the GUI team away from Xerox.importedearthman wrote:beats... funny side note: I still work at the place Jobs "discovered" the gui at.Gates and windows didn't invent the idea either. Xerox PARC did WAAAAAAAAAAY before these guys came along. These guys just peddled it better. History is a funny thing. Steve didn't steal the "mouse" from PARC either... we actually nabbed it from a stanford guy and slapped it on a STAR!
strange how collaboration works eh?

Is that information part of the Xerox new employee orientation?
I believe there was also a made for TV movie about this.

Anything PARC invented that wasn't directly related to printing or copying Xerox didn't really care about or know what to do with.
So there you go... a little history... PARC didn't invent the mouse but figured it would be a good idea to hook it up to a computer back in 1973 (Steve Jobs was only 18 years old then). So, if you like using a mouse on a computer you can send thanks to the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center.
and the made for tv movie was funny... they showed Jobs droppin' acid iirc.
