Roland VG-99 and Live
Roland VG-99 and Live
Guitarists out there: Is anybody using VG-99 with Live (with or without using the USB Audio interface embedded). How's the verdict? How much do you you need a GK3 Pickup to access Acoustic Guitar and Nylon Guitar presets?

Re: Roland VG-99 and Live
hey pasha....
i use a vg99 with live and it ROCKS!!!!!
i don't use it as a sound card because when you switch patches the
audio drops out for a second.
you do need a gk3 or similar pick up to get the most out of it.
i do mostly electronic music and make all my own patches
some of which can be downloaded here.....>

here is example of me using dummy clips to control the VG99 to get a 303 type of sound

you can read about what and how i am doing this here

here are a few examples of VG99 only stuff i am working on
everything but the drums is the VG99
http://soundcloud.com/binarycontrollers ... g-in-bflat
http://soundcloud.com/binarycontrollers ... night-demo
so in short the VG in my opinion is AMAZING and as far as sounding like
shit...well i have to disagree

Re: Roland VG-99 and Live
Your best bet with pickups, is to actual get some that can be installed directly in the bridge, so the bridge itself becomes the pickup. It saves having to get the pickups at just the right height and sounds much better and more consistent. It's more expensive but you can get them installed at many guitar places (needs the wiring to go into the body). Same idea as the godin guitars with those pickups built in. For example Graph Tech ghost pickups: http://www.graphtech.com/products.html?CategoryID=2.
The roland modelling sounds quite good with these or godin pickups.

Am I wrong or you're saying that installing GK-3 on a Fender Stratocaster is a no go for it won't reach same results?glitchrock-buddha wrote:Your best bet with pickups, is to actual get some that can be installed directly in the bridge, so the bridge itself becomes the pickup. Re: Roland VG-99 and Live
It's not bad, I've done that myself. It's just more clunky that getting pickups built right in. It's got the box you have to mount on it, and the extra pickup to stick under and measure perfectly. And it ends sounding pretty good, but less good for bends and certain things. The ones that get builin to the saddles/bridge sound more consistent. But of course it's a much more expensive solution. I was quoted about 700 usd equivalent for the parts and installation as opposed to just buying a cheap GK-3 pickup. A godin could be purchased for around the same price. Try a godin with 13 pin connection sometime that has the in-built pickups with the vg 99. The 13 pin connection is the one that can send to midi and synth stuff including the vg-99.Pasha wrote:Am I wrong or you're saying that installing GK-3 on a Fender Stratocaster is a no go for it won't reach same results?glitchrock-buddha wrote:Your best bet with pickups, is to actual get some that can be installed directly in the bridge, so the bridge itself becomes the pickup.
