Howdy all.
Having serious problems with 8.1.4.
When loading up songs made in previous versions of live ( say 8.1 otr 7.2 etc etc) live either quits or completely shutsdown my computer. It will open up some old files and not others - cant work out the pattern of what files its gonna crash and what ones it isnt
Any other users getting serious crashing occuring with it sometimes rebooting the whole system ?
I am pitching for some media gamimg work this week and the timing is not good as i have plenty to be getting on with hear.
Win 7 64 bit ultimate.

It wouldn't be Live
8 if it didn't crash all the time...
Reboots sound like a driver problem though, check out the Windows event log, maybe there's a hint there. I only get "ordinary" crashes.
What kind of mouse are you using? Are you having the problems i describe here "
http://forum.ableton.com//viewtopic.php?f=2&t=146298 " as well?
I'm also using Win7 64bit (which according to the product page isn't supported, at least it's not listed). Pretty pissed off...

My 8.1.4 is crashing constantly as well... At first i thought it was a plugin that i was using but it seems to continue even when i've un-installed it.
I am having huge problems even loading up projects that have been exclusively been done in 8.1.4... In other words if i close down the project there is an 80% chance i won't be able to open it up again. Never had this in 8.1.3...
Anyone else?

I am now trying to create a fresh "default project" which is proving difficult because i cant delete my current channels and instruments without ableton crashing every time.

its really a starnge game.. 8.14 is the first stable for me... at least pretty stable...only one plug in related crash sofar..sometimes it hangs a bit ..but sofar every times went stable again after some extra "think" time...
have you checked with all external plug ins deactivated?
the no crash tendency also was rising after i deleted my preference file.. a file that holds a lot of settings one should note down before by screenshots or paper...
cant really tell if the plug in related crash before was just accidently or related to the preffs.. but no crash ince..
for over a wek now !! i am able to do work on my L8 tracks again .. still nice material even when beeing one year old...

Hello,
Please try this:
- close Live
- delete the "Preferences.cfg" and "Template.als" and "Undo.cfg" files (if available) from
C:\Documents and Settings\xxxx xxxx(name)\Application Data\Ableton\Live 8.1.4\Preferences
note: this will erase your default template!
- delete the content of these two folders:
C:\Documents and Settings\xxxx xxxx(name)\Application Data\Ableton\Cache\Cache\Web
and
C:\Documents and Settings\xxxx xxxx(name)\Application Data\Ableton\Live 8.1.4\Database\
- restart Live 8.1.4

Well at least we arent alone in this. Which is good
point of note : i have projects i saved in 8.1.3 maybe 2 weeks ago that crash live immediately when trying to load up and then i open up projects that are 7 months old and they open up fine but within that 7 months old project there are maybe 6 versions of the piece and although they were all saved at roughly the same point in history some of them crash live and some don,t ?
Hard to see a pattern in this. But trashing preferences looks worth a shot.
TIP:
If you do trash preferences you can can take a screen shot of the prefence panel / panels with there various settings and refer to them when setting up again.
What operating system you guys on ? I,m running win 7 64 ultimate

Sometimes and othertimes definately not. But that hasnt stopped either of those songs which contain older or newer warping crashing live. Why do you ask ?
Beta 8.1.5.2 is no better. ( bad joke i know) Still crashing with same songs.
Also the crash is 100% repeatable - everytime i open up a song that crashes live on opening the next time i open it up it will crash again and then again. So 100% repeatable.
I feel more comfortable now i know there are other's in the same boat. I was wondering wether i would have to do a ful system re-install - which is a mammoth and laborous task for me - last time just before xmas it took me 3-4 weeks - no over exagertation - conflicts - Native instruments service centre- older compatibility issues with vsti and fx which i ironed out after lots studying and testing.
anyway
best

Hi all,
Live can crash for various reasons. It can be a bug in Live, a bug in a plugin, or something else. A solution or a workaround for one issue will likely not work for others, so we need to investigate the cause of every specific crash.
In any case, we would like to help you solve your problem, and, assuming it is a bug in Live, we would also like to fix it. When you keep experiencing crashes, therefore, please
- update to the latest version of Live since it contains many bugfixes for known issues;
- contact [email protected] with a short description of your problem and the bug report package(s) Live creates on the next start after a crash.
This information will help us figure out what is going on in your setup and provide us with the necessary information to fix the cause of the crash in a future bugfix update for all users.
Best,
Tobias
