Lost another song..sample offline again!!2.01 is killing me!

Post by claudek » Sat Feb 08, 2003 8:28 pm

I am really getting frustrated now.I lost yet another song I made as I worked in two of my setups (powerbook G4 OSX/live 2.01-then back to my Desktop 2.01 OS9..) When I try to open my song I can no longer see the audio as "sample offline" is in the audio waveform area..I am saving my songs as "save set as self contained" so all my samples are in its own dedicated folder and Live document a directory up..This is really incredible..I'm almost ready to trash 2.0 and go back to 1.5.2!

..Now I just tried the "replace sample" on one of the tracks and reloaded a file..then I noticed all the rest of the tracks showed up..This is definitely some random bug as 1.5.2 never did this to me.. I also am getting the question on closing about some files have changed ..so on and I have choice of yes/no..I select "NO"..Otherwise by selecting yes..it crashes me..
PLEASE FIX THESE BUGS!!

if youre saying the files that you made on os x show up as offline in os 9, that is not surprising at all. the 2 os's reference paths differently, and as soon as you replace one file, it realizes all the other ones are in the same place. if however, youre losing the relative path without changing OS, thats a bug...

So it is not a bug then..the trick I guess when working from different OS/platforms is to reload one sample..and it immediately reloads the thers via the new path?..Seems weird but also makes some sense..But the directory of samples are in the same HD (an external FW drive..I bring from studio to studio..)

No, this is not the problem. Live doesn't store path names; it references files in a platform-independent way, so you should even be able to switch between Mac OS and Windows, and it should still find the sound files (as long as they are on the same volume as the Live set).

So, if Live can't find the files when you are switching between 9 and X, this must be a bug. Claudek, can you please try to reproduce the problem with a small set (just one sample), and if you still get it to happen, stuff the folder that contains the Live set and the sample file, and send it to me at my address below. Thanks.
