A maverick approach? Why? Because he made a midi controller from an open source project?

Just retype your post and change "sasha" with "richie hawtin" and you might have a point there.

Sasha says he respects what Richie tries to do with Live. I'll check it out.

Does Richie do CDs of his sets?

Yeah. and if you google it. You might find tons of his Livesets.

Hey Donalds an amazing DJ

- Sasha is a baller - he plays way more prolific shows and draws a bigger crowd than most on this forum so...I've never seen him play or bought any of his music (The only trance dj I like is Christopher Lawrence) but when big DJ's give him props you have to listen a little bit

- now Paul Oakenfold is a TODD! I've seen him play and he looks like a rat. He needs to retire and move to Iceland and Marry Bjork and have a baby that would like like Goldie who would go on to dominate the underworld as the Lord Overseer Krom

- I don't know, don't care but please stop hating on Sasha he's cool

why does every single thread about DJing come back to the same few people hating on .. of all people .. sasha??

i told a couple of friends of mine about this board and they couldnt believe how bad it is. nobody has ever seen anything like this.

yes some people revere the guy as a living legend, hes been doing it for almost 20 years (or so) now and has inspired a LOT of people during that time.

but even people that arent all that into what he does - or arent starfuckers, whatever - recognize he is good at what he does and has produced (yes, he remixes and produces people) quality music over the years.

i don't argue with any of that. it really IS irrelevant that i don't personally like what he does -- he does it well and he's very successful doing it. more power to 'im.

but this notion that he has pioneered anything as it relates to ableton is complete nonsense. as we've said a million times here before, he just has good PR. which i also don't fault him for in the least.

what's ironic is that ppl often accuse hawtin of being too media savvy. guess not.

who is Jamie Lidell?

He was half of SuperCollider with Christian Vogel, He's on Warp for his solo stuff .. but I dont think his talents have ever been captured on record enough.

This particular gig isn't the absolute best, in fact he seems pretty tired on this one, but you certainly get the idea.

basically .. he starts off and you say - 'yeah human beatbox, hmm ... ' then he loops it up in maxMSP and starts singing on top.

He makes the whole gig up on the fly, sometimes the realtime edits work - sometimes they don't. It's real seat of the pants stuff.

Every music biz type / electronic musician I have taken along has ended up saying 'wow!' a lot. He made me re-asses what I was doing in terms of 'pre made' elements and how much it gives over to the crowd when you can do it all 'live'. Although he does use some odd 'soul backing tracks!'

Just the audio doesn't convey what it is like to watch the guy at work on stage strutting it and cutting it. Compete with Pablos realtime video/super8 edits.

If you see him playing anywhere near you, it's definately worth catching him. He is an individual.
