Midi Instruments Not Receiving Midi Info After A Couple Hrs

Post by FrancodeLeon88 » Sat Aug 07, 2010 6:43 am

Hello...I sent the following letter to Ableton Support, but thought that maybe someone on the forums might be able to help. I searched, and did not find anyone experiencing this problem. I welcome any ideas, and thank you for taking the time!

...begin letter...

I hope you're having a very nice day.

Live Version: 7.0.18
Mac Book Pro - 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB Ram
Mac Os X 10.5.8
M-Audio Firewire 1814
Korg padKontrol, connected via USB, running Farmpad (latest drivers)
Generic Wireless Mouse and Keyboard, connected via USB
Screen Saver set to 10 minutes
Energy Saver Settings:
Put the computer to sleep... NEVER
Put the display to sleep... 15 min
Also running Farmpad (via Terminal) and midiStroke

...

Upon launch of my live set, everything works fine.

After a period of not using the program (but it running), Ableton's midi instruments will no longer receive midi notes.

Ableton Live still recognizes the attached controller (in this case, padKontrol) in Preferences.

The Midi Track In Indicator is still reflecting that it is getting a midi signal.

When I put the set into Midi Map Mode, I can assign midi notes to launch clips, change device parameters, etc.

Midi controls ALREADY assigned to control device parameters STILL work.

However, no record enabled midi instruments (Simpler, Drum Racks, Impulse) are receiving any midi notes to trigger sounds on ANY midi channel (I check using instruments using specific channels, and other instruments set to accept input from All Midi Channels).

Power cycling the midi controller does not fix the problem.

Restarting live and reloading my live set does not fix the problem.

Reattaching the USB cable, using another USB port, and rescanning the midi devices in the Audio MIDI Setup Utility does not fix the problem.

Using another midi controller (a Korg microKontrol), produces the same results, and does not fix the problem.

The only thing that fixes the problem is a full restart of the computer.

...

I did not experience this problem before (as far as I know) when using my Korg microKontrol (I was not using Farmpad via Terminal with that gear). The problem has only become apparent to me with the use of the padKontrol.

This poses a problem because for shows, I will soundcheck, and leave my live set and equipment ready to play, but will then not touch the equipment for several hours. I do not have the luxury of being able to reboot my computer right before I play.

Also, this poses a problem because leaving my Ableton Live set open and ready to create music at any time without having to wait to load the program or a set is crucial to my workflow in the studio.

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your solutions.

Regards,

Franco de Leon

....end letter....

Thanks again...hopefully my solution is an easy one!
