Anyone using Nerve?

Post by The Leveller » Sat Aug 07, 2010 3:39 pm

I am a Guru user but I recently say a Steve Duda demonstration of Nerve, and the thing looks pretty impressive. Anyone using have any experience to share?

I am---I think it's great. I also use Maschine, Guru and Stylus...they all have their strengths and Nerve is just one more great tool to have access to. I mostly use it in conjunction with Maschine. I like the tweakability more than anything, and I like how you can throw a Rex file onto a pad and really f**k it up.

Great, let us know how you get on HD. I have been a fiddling with the demo since I posted. I notice a bit of high freq attenuation going on once you engage the built in sidechain comp, are you noticing that nepotist.

Other than that, so far seems a very easy way to dial up a new beat.

I've had Nerve for a couple of months now and have found myself using this increasingly exclusively for building my beats. Aside from the phenomenal tweakability it offers for any sound file, I just like it for how easy it is to quickly construct a pattern that can then be exported, tweaked some more, dragged and dropped into the host DAW as MIDI or audio and so on. I would recommend it to anyone!

One thing I would like it to offer is the option to have each individual drum hit editable - I've suggested this to the developer who has said he is trying to incorporate it. This is another feature of Nerve that I think is pretty special - the developer has close contact with the users and regularly responds to request features and comments on the site.

I've not noticed any high frequency attenuation on sidechaining though - is this on a variety of kits or one in particular?

haven't noticed any sidechaining issues on my end really...haven't done much though. Also I agree about the developer, I had a question and dropped him an email and he got right back to me with the answer. It really is a great program.

Thanks guys, I wonder if it is a demo thing...I doubt it, I'm sure the developer would want the demo to shine as brightly as possible to ensure future sales.

It may be a kit thing, but I note the slight reduction of snare crack and cymbal hat high frequencies, above and beyond that you would normally expect when pumping the percussion form the kick through a compressor.

I'll do more demoing I think.

I have it and love it just for the workflow. I downloaded the b15 (not Live, the Nerve 1.01 RC2). RC1 introduced drag n drop MIDI or audio loops, and then RC2 made it so you can turn off the sequencer. I love this workflow :D Drag out the loops in Arrangement view and then turn off the sequencer once the drum track is built.
I don't 'produce.' I write music.

Hi KrisM... Would you explain that a little more please.. As I said I bought Nerve yesterday, and haven't had time nor energy to start messing with it yet (prolly will this afternoon though!).. So I'm really interested in what you've got to say bro!

I was checking this out the other day and it looks quite promising. I'm mainly interested in it's sound shaping abilities. Definitely gonna demo it, I've been looking for something like this since I use a lot of drum samples.

Along the top right of the Nerve plugin window you will see a number of buttons labelled A, B, C etc. that refer to the pattern bank available. If you hold Alt+Drag the pattern from any of the letters that have patterns attached to them into your DAW, this will copy the MIDI into your DAW as a clip you can then edit. What took over a year for NI to provide with Maschine took a few days with Nerve! (And I love Maschine by the way). :)

This is VERY cool... Does it place the notes to maintain the swing feel and the 'early/late parameters?

I've just had it up and running for like 20 mins and I'm like wtf THIS THING IS 8O

This is sooo much more than just a 'workflow' enhancer..

Loving it!

More feedback soon ... off to play again ;)

Ps...The GUI is beauty too!

Yes to all of the above - it maintains the swing and the late parameters. I'd never thought to check this - bloody nora!

HD gave me a demo on skype earlier and I must admit I was impressed. I think I will grab this at the weekend once my new iMac arrives.
