Motu Ultralite/Live/Serato Scratch

Anybody runnin' this set-up? I got my credit card poised for action - I just wanna know if there are any conflicts between the Serato hardware and the Ultralite.

I *think* I'd be using the main out from my DJ mixer to send the scratched .wav audio into a track in Live via the Ultralite to be recorded as part of my Liveset. This is all going to be done on ONE laptop.

(Pentium 4HT 3.2GHz, 1GB Ram, XP Pro SP2 - Drive is only 5400RPM, although I use an external 500Gb MyBook Drive for audio which is 7200RPM).

Your help, Gentlemen, as ever, is greatly appreciated.

I'm poised to run this setup as well! Only with Torq instead of Serato

Torq was in the running for me for a while, too. I really like the Serato interface - and the different colours on a wave form for different frequencies is gonna swing it for me when I'm beat juggling!

Can my machine handle running both Live and Serato (See original post)??? The money's burning a hole in my pocket - and I can't wait to get hold of the Ultralite/Serato!!!

I've been looking at this setup for the last few days, since I already have all the kit and can't wait for the bridge to turn up since it seems to be vaporware....

Anyhow, there doesn't seem to be any info that i've managed to find to describe on how this works so I thought I'd post it here and see if anyone else has tried it - I'm getting a bit of buzzing from one of my decks but i think it could be that the grounding cable is fooked...

So, the turntables go into my SL1, the outs from the SL1 go into ableton via the ultralite, these 2 channels in ableton are sent to external outs on my ultralite and into my mixer and then the outputs from my mixer go into the ultralite again and back into ableton. The main out in ableton goes to my speakers.

This way I can use serato with ableton or bypass ableton completely. When routing through ableton, I can use live effects on either channel or on the master by using a midi controller (launchpad!). I still get complete crossfader and cue control from my mixer.

It seems that the only thing that the bridge has up on this setup is the being able to record as a set of files rather than as an audio file...

Not sure if this helps, but I do something different with the same gear...
I use Serato to DJ, and the Ultralite to record from an external microphone into Live. I haven't tried using Live as a "DJ mixer" by sending Serato to it, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Neat idea, btw.

Next time I go to the studio, I'll try out what you're proposing and post about it.

Thanks Mudo, it might be nice to incorporate that ms pinky idea into the set but i guess thats more geared towards scratching and making your own tracks rather than mixing.

With this setup, you should be able to use Live as the mixer - I just prefer to use my hardware mixer because I'm used to it (and otherwise id be using a vcm600, which is a bit big)

Hi i do exactly this with an Motu 828 MkII, the serato box is hooked up to the Mac and then sends it audio back into Live via the Motu for processing and effects.... I'll be honest there isn't a noticable latency for what i do but i imagine if your were turntablisming it up then you'd find it lacking?

It would be nice if the Vinyl could control anything within live though., i'd love it as a midi controller.....

Go for it! I got Ableton + MOTU Ultralite mk3 + Serato Box & Software running together at all times, and so far I have never had a single problem. It works great and the possibilities and endless! I usually spinn with CDJ [serato], so instead of plugin the serato box to my mixer, I plug it to my MOTU/Ableton. All the audio goes through Ableton, given me the opportunity do bunch of things while preforming. Once again, go for the MOTU, you won't regret it!
