SubBass like Logic

Post by barbarism » Mon Aug 09, 2010 3:36 pm

Any idea how to approximate the SubBass plugin within Logic? I have the same track loaded with Live and Logic and they sound identical switching, applying the SubBass plug-in in Logic with the simple Bass Booster preset gives this nice deep warmth. I've tried EQ, I've tried a multi-band compressor, not even close. Somewhere I read that it was adding harmonics and that the Waves RBass and MaxxBass perform this function, no go their either. All of these functions simply boost the bass or give it this kind of "make it louder" sort of sound.

SubBass in logic adds this deep deep warm undertone.

thanx.

OK you named two plug ins that do the same thing, that cost money and aren't embedded into a DAW like Logics.
The only real answer for you is to record the track in Logic with the sub bass you like and be done with it. Beyond that it's a matter of googling other sub bass plug ins and trying them out.

Ok. Starting to understand exactly what it does. Apparently it's generating sign waves with matching harmonics of the low freq set then mixing it in. Looks like Lowender by reFuse simulates this. My guess is that I'll get better results by generating my own sign playing along with the music, a sub-synth.

Well, I answered my own question. I just created an instrument rack with an Analog with 1 Osc generating a basic sign-wave at -1 Octave and it's perfect.

Nice work. Thanks for sharing your finding. It's a great trick to really emphasize the "feel" of the bass.
