How to warp exported tracks (stems) all at once?

Post by frep45 » Thu Aug 12, 2010 6:36 pm

I just read through Chris Cowie's great post on the less-is-more technique of warping, and it proved very helpful. However, I am still having trouble when trying to make mixes of songs for which I have the stems (separated track output from another program).

In this case, I have several audio files which match up perfectly, but many of them don't have any rhythmic cues. A backing vocals track, for instance, consists of mostly silence, with very little beat material to reference. Is there an easy way to warp one track (maybe the drum track) and apply that same warping to all the other tracks?

Select all tracks at once... Each stem in a track. Then warp the stem with a beat. All tracks will get the same warp markers!

One caveat: the stems have to be exactly the same length for multi-selection warping to work. If they aren't, cut and paste some extra "dead air" regions onto the tracks and consolidate the regions into a new correct length stem. Then do your multi-selection and warping.

FYI, you'll see the title bar in Clip View becomes striped diagonals when you make a multi-selection.

Brilliant! I have applied other settings to multiple clips at once, but did not realize you could warp this way as well. Thank you both for the info!
