OS X 10.6.3 or 10.6.4?
OS X 10.6.3 or 10.6.4?
I'm gonna upgrade from Leo to Snow Leper. The disc I got is 10.6.3. Was wondering if people have good/bad experiences with .3/.4, any recommendations, warnings...?
[BlackBook 2008 (?), 2.4 C2D, Live 7, MOTU Ultralite (so firewire performance is important)]
Cheers.

I haven't noticed any differences between 10.6.3 and 10.6.4 regarding Live and other audio related things. Also, my firewire hard drives and original MOTU 828 are working fine. If you don't have any software or hardware that has not yet been updated for it I'd go for 10.6.4.

Same here, 10.6.4 is working fine for me too.

Cheers for the replies guys.
The one factor I'd forgotten about was still being on Live 7 (hence bumping another thread about specific 7 issues http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=147890 )
The reason I asked the general question was as I thought I had read about firewire issues in .3 or .4 , can't remember where I read it.

I'm not sure, but I haven't had any firewire issues since 10.6.0, at all.

I am thinking about it.
Is it just hardware that's an issue? I have got loads and loads of software on my machine that I use so was hoping that I could just update it rather than re-install eveything...

I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.

^ Hmm, would be a drag as I've only just got my optical drive replaced.
I'm kind of sitting on the fence now specifically about Live 7 as Abes don't support it on SL and although I'd like some of the stuff that comes with SL, I value a working system even more than any OS improvements. Beginning to wish I hadn't even bought SL...the disk is calling to me "install, install' but other voices are saying "no".
(And I know I can revert to Leo if I need to from a backup, thing is sometimes problems come up at a later date when reverting back isn't an option)

If you currently have Leopard installed, I'd recommend to free up some harddrive space, create a new partition, install SL on it and give it a shot. Both operating systems can create / resize / delete partitions on the fly, so if everything fails, you can simply revert to Leopard and delete the SL partition.

^ Thanks Nico, that's actually an interesting option.
Only thing that I'm not sure about is running apps on 2 partitions - do I have to reinstall all the apps on the new partition? And all the samples (Alchemy, for example, has got a big sample library attached)? i.e. I guess I need to have 2 copies of each app installed, one for each partition?

You have to reinstall the apps to the new partition. Best you get a big 2nd external HD (cheap nowadays & one backup = no backup…) with say two partitions: one with a clone of your old Leo internal (which you keep for a few month) & one as 2nd backup of your Snow Leopard internal.
