4.11 : Tap Tempo still doesn't work

Post by madlab » Sat Mar 19, 2005 8:45 am

It seems to be better when tapping from the laptop kbd or clicking with the mouse but when you assign a midi kbd key to it, it's still completely f+/ked up. I've even tried to deactivate the Demos and Tutorials like somenone from Ableton suggested during the beta test time, to no use. I really need this function back.

Hi madlab,
it's still completely f+/ked up
Please explain us a bit more detailed how the behavior using Tap tempo with computer keyboard or mouse differs from the using with MIDI.

I've even tried to deactivate the Demos and Tutorials like somenone from Ableton suggested during the beta test time, to no use.
This was a workaround for Live 4.1 on OS X. It is fixed within Live 4.1.1.

Alex

Alex, is there a simple way to do this : take one audio track and put it in a newly created Live set in an arrangement track. Set it to 'unwarped'. Then Tap Tempo to find the tempo of that clip.
Everytime I try to do this, the pointer moves between each tap, making the audio jump around, so that makes accurate Tap Tempo operation impossible.
As for using a midi kbd, I sometimes get the old symptom with the tempo oscillating between 60 and 200.

try putting the unwarped clip in the session view, and use the tap tempo to find the tempo of that clip.

Tap does not work, I had same problems , as you guys describe, have to use other ways to find out the tempo but the tap of Live definitely does not work right.

Hi madlab,

sorry for the delayed answer.

If you change the tempo within Live it affects also the timeline in the arranger of Live. So if you play an unwarped clip in the arranger and change the tempo the timeline is updated and the clip is repositioned which will result in audio clicks and jumps.

If you have a clip and want to get its tempo you have to place it somewhere in the session view. Because the Session view is "disconnected" from absolute time you can change the tempo there while playing it.

Alex

Thanks Alex,
Naturally, it cannot work otherwise, it is definitely important to understand general concept, now know what the main problem was ( like usual the user!)
