You will buy this. You will gig with it. You will like it. But you'll resell it anyway.

starving student probably will like the platter size, but the price point and comparable features makes the NI controller look not so bad.

It's just eerie that you know me all too well.beats me wrote:Says the guy who regularly drops at least that much on a hardware synth or other gear but could easily get the same sound with software at 1/5th the price.aqua_tek wrote:i think i'd rather get that mixtrack. I'm thinking there also might be some kind of discount for people who already own Traktor...but how much is the question. The software part of the package is probably the cheapest part of the total package. $100 off might be nice though.

yeah that would be nice to see. Anything would help at that price tag.beats me wrote:I'm thinking there also might be some kind of discount for people who already own Traktor...but how much is the question. I'm going to save up for a little bit, I need to get a better computer before I can go gigging with my laptop anyway. I still rock the CDJs at my gigs.

That's why I'm glad they aren't releasing it until the winter. If they were dropping it the end of this month I would be a little tempted to sacrifice food over the next couple of months in order to get it at launch.caaflex wrote:yeah that would be nice to see. Lol. I've done the Ramen & PBJ diet before to buy some gear. Did that to get a pair of CDJ1000MK3s, in hindsight, yeah, not really worth it.beats me wrote:That's why I'm glad they aren't releasing it until the winter. Re: Numark Mixtrack for Traktor
I do like the feel of CDJs but have always found the size and price of the Pioneer 1000s a little obnoxious and since I started on CDJs and have never spun vinyl I don't have a background that would make me desire a deck that big. Plus I can't imagine just having a wheel that large is enough to emulate the feel of vinyl decks. Starving student says size does matter but I don't think that's all that matters. I'm sure there's some other intricacies in touching vinyl that a CDJ just isn't going to be able to cut it.

Re: Numark Mixtrack for Traktor
my favo of cd decks is the numark cdx, I have one and love it but it's heavy as fuck and only leaves the yard on the most important occasions, had the pioneer mrk 1 and it was cool but too expensive, the sound was good but the numark beat it hands down.
love any excuse to post this clip

Re: Numark Mixtrack for Traktor
now take this vid for example, look at the ergonomics, there's space for the body to relax, he's not all cramped up like dj shifty, he's literally able to do things that he couldn't or wouldn't feel good doing on the new diddy from ni, now at the same time you're saying you're not a turntablist or you don't scratch
whatever that's cool but what allot people don't realize is that there is alot more to turntablism than scratching, they apply those same skills to basslines and other instrumentation, there's some deep deep sound designing that can go on with a turntable, forget drums for a moment, think about juggling horns piano notes many things

again check the ergonomics, space and body flexibility, dj shifty can only dream about not feeling so confined

Re: Numark Mixtrack for Traktor
ok now look at how kentaro is all over that space utilizing everybit of it, this is the difference between a controller and an instrument, you can't even imagine him calling his set up a controller cause he's 'playing' the setup as opposed to triggering the setup it's very obvious. now what I'm saying is that if the traktor controller was a little bigger imagine what he could do with it, he wouldn't have futuristic skills coupled with antiquated kit he'd have futuristic skills paired with contemporary kit.
most people using controllers these days are pairing antiquated skills with contemporary kit and calling that innovative, or 'current'

I can't youtube at work, and I will later, but I get what you are saying.
To go back to the comparison of expecting musicians to play tiny versions of their instruments, I don't think it's like asking a grown ass man to play a kid's drum set. A better comparison would be between a drummer playing a drum set and somebody banging out beats on a MPC. Different skill sets but with a little practice both can yield the same results. If somebody doesn't have any vinyl or CD spinning background then they could possibly pull off the same end result using different techniques and software features. The new Traktor sample decks look like they would be great for juggling and manipulating sounds.

i'm stoked about the loopdecks. I just wish there was a way to cute each loops length with a touch of a button.
so you could go from 1 bar to 1/4 to 1/2 to 2 bar etc by pressing a button. doesn't look like there a way to do that with each loop deck from the screen shot.

I'm pretty sure the demo video on the NI site shows that you can do that.caaflex wrote:so you could go from 1 bar to 1/4 to 1/2 to 2 bar etc by pressing a button. doesn't look like there a way to do that with each loop deck from the screen shot.
