How much value is in online tutorials? Which ones?
How much value is in online tutorials? Which ones?
As someone new to the Ableton game, I am not highly educated in the program quite yet. I would however, like to know everything there is to know about using the program. I have seen a lot of tutorials online that seem like pretty solid options, but I don't know if they provide the value they say they do or not. Or if they are a good learning resource, which ones to select or which site to go through. I understand there are in-person programs that can be taken, but that is not going to be in my short term plans at the moment. Any suggestions or customer reviews on the topic would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi there!
I was in the same situation some months ago - just had discovered Ableton and fell in love with the idea to make my own music. Yes, there are lots of tutorials on the web and I think it is a great start for anyone to get going in the software.
However, if you are serious about music production, I'll suggest taking a course on a one-to-one basis. This is also possible online. I've found a website offering this in very good quality: www.quantizecourses.com - there are also very good free tutorial videos. I took a course for starters and I am absolutely amazed by the amount of things I've learned so far. If you want to go "in-depth" with Ableton, this course would be my top advice.
Cheers,
Michael

What he said, Keith at Quantize is one of the best tutors i've come across, he really understands what level you're at and develops his sessions accordingly, seriously check out the videos first, his multiband compression isolater rack is a mainstay in my template these days!tehupbeat wrote:Hi there!

Do the lessons in live before you spend anymore money. They are short and very well written.

I agree with the previous posters. I'm a past (and future) Quantize student. You won't find a better course on Ableton or music production. The level of individual attention you get and the standard of tuition with Quantize is unmatched. You should see a very definite improvement in your productions after the course (and know alot more about Ableton). Since doing the course I've had some of my music commissioned for TV. I very much doubt this would have happened had I not done the course.

I have taken the QuantizeCourses.com classes also, I loved every minute of it. The videos and the ono to one chats and feedback videos put me in a new level of music production.tehupbeat wrote:Hi there!

Check out Tom Cosm's videos, he's a certified ableton instructor from New Zealand. I thought his tutorials were really helpful

lemme weigh in here
Groove3 and MacProVideo are good if you need to learn the basics in Live.
For me it was good for the Tim allen stuff, a lot of genre specific stuff I'm still learning. Forge i did a small bit of your operator tut and enjoyed it.
Groove3 would be more useful to me if i had protools. And if they had an iphone app. HTML5 pshhhh.
Check out DJ Vespers on youtube for some random coolness.
Quantize seems awesome but pretty expensive.

ah ok… I have no idea what it is exactly, I haven't tried
Re: How much value is in online tutorials? Which ones?
its really not awful, but the site doesn't keep you logged in, forcing you to navigate twice as much on the iphone. THEN you have to find your videos.
Coming from macPro video it was a little annoying.
