Re: how to keep your registered ableton from disabling itself
i seem to recall downloading live immediately after i purchased it, then waiting for the box to arrive in the mail.amloops wrote: even though he purchased it from the website, we were forced (somewhat) to use a cracked version since the German Post was unbelievably slow.
response from ableton and my reply (somewhat longwinded)
Hi Richard (I guess that is your name),
I read your posting in the forum. If you really are a legal user of Live
I do not understand your posting. If there is a problem for legally unlocked versions of Live, please tell it to us. We will try to fix it as soon as possible. At least I have no idea of what problem you could be talking.
If you are not a legal user of Live and want to encourage other to follow your way, I can only say that this is absolutely not acceptable.
You commit to a crime and encourage others to do so as well.
And BTW I don't see any chance that you really find a way to make a crack working by this.
Anyway, if you are legal user please excuse my allegation, and if not, I really would encourage you to be part of the fantastic group of legal Live users.
Bernd.

If you had read the post completely, as well as the numerous other posts from registered users, you might have picked up on what it's inspiration and intent was about. After ordering Ableton Live from your website, waiting 3+ weeks for delivery, and absolutely no help from your support department, which could only provide a German Post tracking number (useless to us), and denied our requests for a serial number and activation, we decided to make use of a crack. It turns out that this was a mistake as I am sure you know, the cracked version will be disabled eventually. Even after installing a legitimate version the problem does not go away. I have followed posts in the user groups regarding this problem, and see that users are susceptible to this error, even if they have never used a "cracked" version. Which is the reason for my post. I do excuse your allegation and understand how it might seem if you have not encountered or dealt with the issue. I suggest you do read the posts from the legitimate users regarding the issue in your forums, because it does not seem to be an isolated problem with only illegal users. Again I must reiterate that my post was not to aid in piracy, but to aid the users who are frustrated and tired of having to email and wait for support to resolve it. I have no issue with your company and would not be offended if you removed the posting. I somewhat expected it. It just seems to me that you spend a significant amount of resources trying to accomplish an impossible task. One user made a good point. Those who are going to pay for it will, and those who aren't won't, and those who aren't may simply just not be able to. I was under the impression that Ableton was developed by musicians for musicians, and that being the case, how many struggling musicians do you know that have an extra $500 to spend? And how many successful ones do you know wouldn't spend the $500? It does not in any way justify piracy, but for us humans, it does suddenly become understandable, and to me, most certainly forgivable. We all do the best we can with what we have, and I know that when I can, I give what I can back. I hope you consider the perspective of the musician and realize that in your efforts to eliminate the piracy of Ableton, you also eliminate a substantial group of users, who more than likely will eventually purchase the program, because it is most certainly worth it.
BTW You should check with your coding department regarding my procedure, they will inform you that it does in fact do what I said it does.
Sincerely,
Richard Turner

Ableton is not fucking Oxfam. The musicians who don't have $500 are the shit talentless ones who have no money.Richard Turner wrote:I was under the impression that Ableton was developed by musicians for musicians, and that being the case, how many struggling musicians do you know that have an extra $500 to spend?
Richard Turner you are a prize piece of shit.
Congratulations.
I hope Ableton take full advantage of the appropriately severe laws available in the US to prosecute you for your actions and the significant losses they will undoubtedly suffer due to your illegal behaviour in publishing piracy protection information on the web..
It should be particularly easy as they have your mailing address and credit card number already.
Google "Dmitry Sklyarov" if you need any more info on what to expect.

yeah, diifferent type of case alright. Apologies Dimitri, you are not in the same category as this scumbag Richard Turner.
I was just going nuts that this little impatient bitch Richard Turner published details on this forum to virtually make Live into freeware - because as a result of being a crack user he had damaged his registry and Ableton wouldn't help him sort it out quickly enough. ... so he takes it upon himself to try to sabotage Ableton.
His reason for using a crack? The mail-order of Live from Germany was taking 3 weeks, and he just couldn't wait that long.. So it was actually Ableton's fault because they didn't get a first class flight to LA with Ableton on a silver tray for him.
What a dick.
If his snake-like activities have delayed Ableton 1 second from releasing Live 4.5/5.0 or lost them one invoice's worth of developer's salary, Richard Thomas will have a very angry large group of people to deal with for his selfishness.

amloops,
do you realize there's an alert somewhere in your registry that is causing the "copyright violation" ? AND do you realize that this alert could have only been put there by using an illegal version of the software? You have admitted that you used an illegal version of the software.
Do you realize that when you buy Live from Ableton.com's online store you can download and authorize the software at that time? And that all you are really waiting for in the mail for 3 weeks is some stickers, a manual, the physical CD of the software, and a box?
Well, these are all facts.
and you are a complete Tool.
