Spurious Midi events

Post by welltones » Tue Aug 24, 2010 7:13 pm

I'm getting intermittent sustained non-programmed midi events. They are showing up on my Yamaha P120 keyboard that is being driven by Live Lite 8.1.3 over the standard Midi connection, (not USB) They will show up more often when I'm using the P120 to program a different track while live is outputting Midi to the P120 at the same time playing a different instrument on a separate channel, but also occur randomly during just playback. The notes will sustain until I click the stop button. Anyone ever have this problem? BTW this does not happen while using Studio Vision with the same keyboard.

Make sure you don't have any other tracks storing MIDI data you didn't expect. Check your clips' envelope sections and see if you've missed any CC data that might've been recorded. Check for extra notes in your clips. If you have tracks armed but don't want to record on them, make sure overwrite is off (the "OVR" at the top).

Finally, if you're in Session View, check for things going on in Arrangement View that you didn't notice.

Other than these, I've never come across random MIDI events like that.

My Midi setup includes the P120 connected to a M-Audio FastTack Pro and a AKAI MPK88 connected to my PC via USB. I'm finding that if I disconnect the AKAI's USB the spurious sustained notes who's audio is being generated on the P120 stop happening. So there appears to be some kind of conflict between the USB Midi and the Standard Din connector Midi from the FastTrack.

It's also happening with Midi notes recorded from my MPK88 and then played back from Live Lite. It's as if the sustain pedal is stuck on, only that I don't even have a sustain pedal hooked up to my MPK88. The only way to clear it to select my P120 as the input for the track and play some notes while hitting it's sustain pedal.
