Too bad this isn't mp3.com back in the early 00's when they'd pay you just based on listens. Gee, how did they ever fail given that kind of revenue model? "We basically sell nothing and pay artists when somebody listens to a song."

Actually, that's not completely true. They did print, sell, and ship your CDs if you wanted them to and took a percentage of the selling price, but still, paying artists just for people listening to their music for free always baffled me. That's probably the only historical example of a lot of artists getting paid sacks of money for very little effort.

I also remember when they suddenly started displaying to the public how many listens each artist got and how much money they made (don't remember if they displayed $$ or if you could figure it out yourself with some basic math). It was a real eye opener finding out artists were either a lot more popular or less popular than I imagined. Now that kind of public stat information is common place which on some level I think is sad because it can alter people's perception even on a subconscious level.

Yeah, that one doucher pissed everybody off, not so much because he was making over 100k a year, but because it was off of Easy Bake Oven Trance. But I also blame Europe because they still celebrate that bullshit and then tourists go back to their homeland and infect everybody else.
