Controling multiple devices from just one mfl device?

Post by DerekC » Tue Aug 31, 2010 12:43 pm

Hey all, I've been using ablton for years and have dabbled with max but not really used mfl. Anyway, I'm wondering if there are any devices that allow control of multiple other devices? Kind if like an instrument rack but across a whole set rather than just one channel. For example being able to put a device on audio channel 1 and use it to control parameters on audio channels 2 and 3. Ive looked about but haven't found what I want. I'm not sure it exists or is possible. Any ideas or recommendations?

Thanks Bjorn. That seems to do the trick so far though I'm using it with LiveControl on my iPad and it doesn't pick up the device names of the parameters it's controlling. All I get in LiveControl is Dial 1, Dial 2, Dial 3 etc. Is there anyway around this? Even a way to manually rename it would be nice as it means I can rely less on my Macbook screen and more just on using the LiveControl interface. Thanks.

Its not possible to change the parameter names dynamically. You see the labels change, but Dial 1 is always Dial 1.

I did a workaround for a custom project that basically sends these labels over OSC when the Sixteen Macros device is selected.
I'll have a chat with ST8 about integrating MFL features into LiveControl and I'll see what I can do to improve the device for general use.

Actually, I'm putting together a DJ set up using a iPad and Ableton so if you or anyone else has any advice for anything interesting to add to the mix I'm open! I've used Ableton for this before. I'm working with dummy clips on audio tracks (a and b decks) routed from the sends. Then I'm using as many audio of tracks as I like and using the sends to dictate what channel they go out. I'm just after some interesting effects and such. I'm gonna look into doing some live cutting and chopping too as I have a launchpad. I want to use the iPad to control most things and effects and then do cutting on the Launchpad as well as triggering dummy clips.
