i tried this SO many times but abletons sync kept putting them out of sync.
has anyone managed to do it?
if not any external vocal looping stations to sync well with ableton?

I used midi in. How come? Can kaoss pads sync via USB and is it tight?

it will sync over USB and it's very tight in my experience.

connect via usb and then you should have it in midi/sync prefs. then define if live is source of clock for kp3 or kp3 is clock for live (you will be able to control ableton tempo with tap/rotary on pad).

ok so ive tried it and it goes out of sync but +2 / -2 bpm.... its not much but enough to notice something odd is happening...
i havent managed to put kaoss in slave sync from ableton... does it need to be in a certain mode?

Try the external instrument effect, and play with the midi latency settings. Might help.

Nah, it's just another route to the same. It is convenient if you have different devices on different midi channels, and it is cool in that it can send midi, and return audio on a single track.

does the kaoss pad need to be in a certain mode to slave midi tempo sync from ableton?

ok so the external instrument effect doesnt seem to work... on the output i click configure and it just takes me to midi prefs...
if its a midi track how can the audio be routed back into that track anyway and what use do people have for this routing?

try shift-4. as far as i remember there should be posibility to switch clock source internal/external/auto. default is auto so if you are correctly feeding clock from live to kp3 it should work. if you are doing it wrong switching to external will not help but give it a try.
