I perfected the kick drum sound, do I still need the lyrics?

Post by Starkravingdead » Tue Aug 31, 2010 6:31 pm

Hi, I'm a long-time reader, first time poster. I've finally found that sweet spot on the kick drum sample I'm using and its such a meaningful sound that I thought maybe I don't need the lyrics anymore. Here are said lyrics:

======================================
The Genius of Capitalism

Let the market arrange society
Create a new hierarchy
Spending power the key to worth
The self an all-consuming concern

Governments proved too corrupt
So privatise the public sector
Make everything fairer

This is the genius of capitalism
The purest form of cynicism
History's final revolution
Mankind has found its salvation

No despots to overthrow
Civil liberties and freedom for all
Free to endlessly compete
The community now obsolete

A perfect meritocracy
Total equality of opportunity
An era of personal accountability

This is the genius of capitalism
The purest form of cynicism
Do not question your isolation
Mankind has found its salvation

Consider yourselves lucky
No more wars or revolutions
Only vast consumerism
Mankind has found its salvation
This is the genius of capitalism

======================================

I was thinking that I might as well follow Phil Spector and Tina Turner's example by singing about how puppies, dolls and flowers are like a woman's devotion, a la River Deep Mountain High. Since the kick drum sound is so meaningful the lyrics are almost like an afterthought. What compressor, reverb, eq do you use to achieve a sound with such artistic depth? I use Izotope Alloy. Or is it T-racks? Hold on a minute, what does DAW stand for?

Depends:

lyrics = sincere -> no need, bleeding obvious
lyrics = not sincere -> no need, definitely no need

Wait, so it doesn't depend...

I have a t-shirt that says "j'adore dubstep". Do you think it will make me more popular?

If you're referring to them words what you wrote back there then....

Let's hear your kick drum!

Them words was shite.

(Notice I didn't resort to bad grammatical spelling innit.)
