Change pitch without changing duration in Simpler/Sampler?
Change pitch without changing duration in Simpler/Sampler?
So sometimes I'll use Simpler or Sampler to map a sample across my whole keyboard and play it at different pitches. However, the higher notes are shorter and the lower notes are longer. Is there a way to set something like that up but have every note maintain the same duration WITHOUT using looping. Been trying to work this one out for a while.

No, but you can sort of do it in Session View by assigning a 'clip' to a keyboard range and setting the trigger quantization to zero. You won't be able to do chords though....

Hmm, yeah, I was thinking about going that route. I guess I'll try and see how it goes. Will report back. Gonna see how to maybe get around chords issue.

I suppose I could also drop a bunch of copies of the sample in a drum rack and manually change the pitch of each one. Seems annoying but doable. Hmmm, which method is better?

I'd make the sample short. Let it fade out easily. And have it in a rack where a synth of your choosing handles the sustain. Might sound weird, but should be way less of a headache.

multisample it at the notes you need, transposing to the notes and retaining tempo - either externally, or resample with live? Load them individually in sampler to each key zone. You will get some artifacts, of course.

Once Live 8 is made as stable as Live 7, then we should lobby them with such feature requests.
The yearly Live upgrade is a thing of the past, therefore you must learn a certain amount of patience. Also, it could take several years of experimenting in order to learn the capabilities of Live's previous incarnations before we even think about what we want next.
It is a good request though and one i've made in the past.

Re: Change pitch without changing duration in Simpler/Sampler?
Artifacts are sounds that aren't ideally intended to be in the sound as a result of changing it. If you stretch a piece and it isn't as smooth as the original, but kind of garbly instead, that is an example of artifacts.

you can achieve a granular type of timestretch using sampler.

Dam cool effect you can do it the simpler and control the length via a control

You can also drop the sample in as a session view clip. With warp switched on you can make copies of the clip with different transposition settings. (transposing warped clips doesn't affect their duration) You can then drag the resulting files into Sampler, giving you a multisampled instrument. You might also want to use complex warp mode to avoid unwanted artifacts
