complex pro glitch?

Post by d-track » Sun Feb 14, 2010 11:47 pm

i discovered a problem with looping short samples/loops.

here is an example (500 kb)

http://www.sendspace.com/file/l18nvl

a short classic 808 drumkit loop exported at 120 bpm

then i reloaded the sample as audio track.
i dont change the tempo only pitch up the sample in complex pro mode. in this case one octave.
the result is glitchy at the beginning of/end of loop. as you can see the volume jumps up by a few dB and causes clipping plus some other "doubling" or whatever occurs.
there are only 2 transients but it should be enough because i dont change the tempo just loaded the perfectly cut loop.
if i add transients nothinhg changes.
is it "a feature not a bug" or something else?
still on 8.0.5
is there any difference with 8.1.1?

What about the other warping modes... any better results?

beats mode has more accurate timing so i can't hear that slide, call it doubling or whatever but the sound quality...oh no. not better. but even worse.
since it is not filed as a bug i guess i do something wrong with complex mode
manual didnt help...

I remember reading somewhere that is trial and error for the different modes. If one doesn't get good results, they suggest trying another.

I have a similar thing when I use "Complex Pro" on an audio track and then speed up the bpm. It starts glitching.
I noticed, changing it to "Complex" solved my problem!
I'd expect the "Pro" version would give better results, but apparently it's not always the best solution...

i'm also noticing more of this in 8.14. I'd heard of this glitch, but it was never an issue for me until 8.14. I changed the clips back to complex mode and it solved the problem, but wtf

Doing a remix at the moment and having the same issue when I have multiple clips using complex pro (nasty digital skipping noise). Just consolidating all my complex pro clips now.
