I don't use Cubase because they require a dongle.

As a paying customer of the software, I feel I should not have to purchase another HW just to prove to the company that I just gave them $$.

Finding a way to protect yourself from piracy? Fine, but please don't do that by forcing the paying customers to jump through extra hoops. I mean, when pirated software's more convenient to use because of not having to run through convoluted authorization scheme, what purpose is that serving, really?

I'll be one of those not upgrading once dongle gets introduced. There are many out there doing fine without the use of dongle so why? With that being said, Ableton's done quite fine without dongles so far, I don't see they would change the policy all the sudden.

Just my $0.02.

Ditto, the whole dongle thing is why I stopped using Cubae and Wavelab too.

Seems were in a minority here, but I would welcome one. Im moving up to win 7 soon, and Abelton and NI Komplete are the only two bits of software i own which has a long winded internet authorisation. Without internet on the daw its a massive pita.

Thats exactly what id say about long winded internet auth's with no internet on my daw. With cubase i just install and go.

However, i can see were in the minority here.

We don't need no hardware license
We don't need no theft control
No black dongle for my software
Developers leave them ports alone

Hey, Ableton! Leave them ports alone!

All in all, it's just another brick in my laptop.

Dongles are bullshit. Specially i-Lok with its strictly rules regarding loss of the usb key.

I agree, dongles are a bad idea. I will stop using Live if they move towards dongle protection.....either that or i'll start using cracks.

I don't think that eLicenser has been broken yet. Ableton's anti-piracy is pretty good as it is and they're quite generous with the unlocks, so I don't see a need for a dongle.
