rising pitch synth effect
rising pitch synth effect
I'm trying to get this rising pitch effect over say 2 octaves using either Albino 2,Impulse, CM Dominator, or Pro 52.
I've tried recording pitch bend and automating in Live 6. This automation doesn't always seem to show up.
So I read a bit about LFOs.....however....the LFO keeps on going when I'm not playing back my synths. Can you get it to always start at the same point? How would you do this in say Albino for instance?
Or, could I record the note over a few bars as audio and then use the transpose button (automated)
I'm really stuck about the easiest / most effective way of getting this sound.
Many thanks in advance

Re: rising pitch synth effect
If you can get the sound you want, bounce it to disk and drop it in as an audio clip, that's the easiest technique.
Re: rising pitch synth effect
Haven't used Albino in a while but you should be able to get a rising pitch effect with an envelope assigned to an oscillators pitch with a long attack.
Just choose an envelope ('Osc 1 Envelope' for example) in the left column of the 'Mod Matrix', then choose 'Osc 1 Pitch' in the right column. Turn the amount right up in the centre column. And then turn the attack up on the envelope you chose.
Now whenever you trigger a note you should get a rising pitch. If you hear one rising and one static you will probably have another oscillator active, so either turn it off or assign the same envelope to this oscillators pitch in the Mod Matrix too so they rise together. Then just play with the modulation amount and the attack time to get the rise to the intensity and length you need.

Re: rising pitch synth effect
You can use a pitch bend, it's a bit finicky but it gives you much higher resolution than the normal 127 midi steps.
Here's one I prepared earlier if you want a step by step video

Re: rising pitch synth effect
Thanks for all the replies.
Thanks timothy, I had a look at this and it seems to be about drawing a ramp for pitch - cool effect with your bar of silence - like it.
Fullofkittens - you're suggesting the same technique I think where you transpose the clip envelope with the draw tool. I vaguely remember doing this in the past so I'll give it another go.
Autogen - this works a treat with Albino - thanks for this - I can now tweak any of the pads and do this effect. It sounds great, and not an lFO in sight to worry about! Basically you are using the envelope to control the pitch, so I could try this with other synths (i'm a bit of a newbie here!)
Thanks again everyone

Re: rising pitch synth effect
Can be easily achieved with just portamento and overlapping notes.

Thanks Dean
I'll also give this a try. Enjoyed your stuff by the way, excellent.
