Giving credit where credit is due!

Hey everyone!
I'm pretty new to the Ableton community, and have been producing with Ableton for about 6/7 months now.
I was just wondering how much of a song you have to use to call it a "remix" or say "featuring" or just how to
give credit in general!


I'm only asking because I recently produced a song that has an almost continuous sample from another song (crystal castles/air war)looping. Could I still call the song "my song" or am I featuring a crystal castles song? Or did I remix it? Any help is appreciated!

I wouldn't say featuring because it makes you sound like you are piggy backing off of the other band/artist.

But isnt that the case when you ride on a loop taken from another artist?

In any case you will get problems with the other artists publisher when your track becomes a hit.
Or when you want to release it n bigger labels they want you to have the samples cleared.. or do the samle clearing themself..

sample clearing is to get the ok from the other artist.

I shorted my text here.. because i dont like people dont giving credit..because usually that the only thing the musican gets..
so if you dont get money you at least like to have your name around for your work..

I suggest labeling it as

" my track/bla bla..based on theire track/bla bla.."

That would leave the question open if its a remix or a coverversion but wouldnt claim the exclusiv authorship of the track..
what would be the political correct way and the only trouble would be that the other bands publishing might ask for theire share of the income created by the track at one point..
What usually only happens when it actually makes some bigger money.
