How can you have an opinion about something that you haven't experienced? If anyone is experiencing latency in a software environment it has to do with their specific audio interface/cpu setup, not Maschine or any other software. I have never experienced any noticeable latency with my specific setup. Absolutely no difference in "immediacy" compared to MPCs which I have owned and used for years as well.

I can only use Maschine pads in realtime at the very start of my projects. Once I start introducing other VST/AU's, I have to step record everything because of the way Live handles latency and recording. Logic on the other hand let me bang on it throughout the length of a project, and handles the latency beautifully.

thats why I said opinion, as an mpc user you know as well as I do that there are mpc users who feel how you do about latency and that feel how I do about it, I've used mpcs and other hardware samplers for years as well as every drum controller released and on paper the path to what causes latency is clear and simple, but the difference between the maschine and mpc is very noticeable for me. and you know the mpc is just a computer with drumpads as well, I believe it's got better latency than maschine.

Doesn't Maschine have its own sound engine? Pardon my ignorance but if I take the exact same drum wav

and put it into different sample players, it sounds different to my ears. I don't see how a sound card

would effect this.

dont you contradict yourself here? you say that latency depends on the interface settings.. correct..
so there is latency..while in an mpc the latency is very low.. dont know the modern ones but the old ones were fast sound generators. within 3 samples or less..

so because you probably dont have a soundcard that works with 3 samples buffer..

the machine must have more latency...

played yesterday on one..
it feels defently faster than triggering sounds form an apc or lunchpad...

missed the oportunity to measure how stable machine is in standalone to external clock.. would be interesting.. i think i will do that soon... maybe i get one at one point..
i am not totaly convinced about the handling ..but it defently has a nice touch and the way the steps run from the front to the back is brilliant design...

Here someone has thought musicaly from a musicans perspectiv,. and not from a spread sheed calculation point of view... where the first step is up left..because that the order..but what order?
the natural order? or musical usefull order?

to place the one at the heart position and later is away from you is in itself most logic and therfore feels nice..

Actually ableton could learn from this...
mac book 2,16 ghz 4(3)gb ram, Os 10.62, fireface 400,

yeah I like how they did the stepsequencer too, right now maschine is where live was at version 3 I think, there are several things I'm begging ni to add in the next update but at the same time you don't want them to mess anything up. It's a very inspiring piece of gear and like ableton live it's one of those rare pieces imo that would compliment any setup. The other only little nag I have about it is that Ni have alot going on right now, from listening to them on their forum and judgeing from some of the things they left out of maschine (but have said they'll add soon) I get the feeling that even now they don't understand the impact of what they've got on their hands, just my opinion but maschine is one of the most important software hardware developments in the past 10 years easily and I don't think it's really sank in yet over there at ni, for instance if they just had a better song mode I bet 3 times as many people would be using maschine in their production, and that's an extremely small thing, there are so many people who design some shit on maschine and then run it over to ableton for putting it all together, which I love ableton so it can't hurt that bad but thats just an example.

some things I wish it had that it probably won't ever are 3 sets of midi i/0 and off switch, and a crossfader

There was probably no way for them to know how much it would catch on when they were first putting it out there. Kudos for them to have the vision and balls to do it in their first place. But now I'm sure they do know that their instincts were right and how much impact it is having.

Totally agree. It's the most fun and versatile music making tool I've ever owned.

Hey guys a new update is at work,

and,

there might be...

PCs & CCs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (among other cool new features and updates)

I can't stop dreaming about a fully MIDI Maschine sequencer with complete deep midi edition, filtering, routing, etc.

the 21st century LIVE MASCHINE is on the way!

Then just add the ability to save groups with their sound outputs assignations and load groups as a background task, and maschine will allow to sequence and control whole live sets without needing any other sound source to fill the loading blanks...

I could then avoid to buy the RS7000 I said I was purchasing (seller didn't recontact me), and just wait a little time for the next maschine updates...

Follow the news! :D

cheers
