thanks.. at least one..
This quote though, not even near reality. If Ableton had not addressed instability issues that people were having with 8, they would lose more than just future revenue. Customer confidence can kill a DAW that touts itself as a live performance ready instrument, period. They simply had no choice but to address the issues. Whether or not you were affected by it or not, the notes on quality post validated and proved that they knew they had issues. Fixing those issues is in no way a GIFT to the customers that paid for 8, it's a necessary survival tactic. That you're a writer of code simply makes you blind to the fact that bad code doesn't sell it seems?
sure not. i know what hell they went trough and do even now (see the chaos the little addon someone created FOR THEM created?! massive. they sure hoped that people would just enjoy it for what it is, a nice little device. but no, everyone starts crying "you should fix bugs instead, i want all for free, i deserve that, etc.."
Also, Amp was a bad idea as a little bonus to customers between upgrades for the reason you defend them on:
hm.. too bad that they released it when it was done, which is now, by someone else, which is not them. it's like when a new iphone app gets onto the appstore. when it's done and trough the check of ableton if it works and is fine, they release it in their store. it has nothing to do with them. people try to talk so much now into ableton's bad steps of doing that. but all they did was, one day, having talked with the others, gave out development information, and now integrated a new plugin into their store. omg.
A third party add on released in between upgrades as free to less than half your customers
they released it the same way they did always, it's not the first time.
in a release cycle that was very arguably the most buggy one in your products lifespan
which is why they release stuff MADE BY OTHERS
is a terrible idea for half your customers, not a great idea at all.
you get what you pay for. some payed for just the core, some payed for everything and the kitchen sink.
They should have waited until 9, and had it as a Suite add on to entice people like normal, otherwise it ends up creating more threads where people want freebies from your company. Who knows though, we all have bills to pay!

the uproar from the community, is as always, laughable. but completely expected, so yeah, they could have just not released it.
i'm personally glad they did, even most likely knowing the mess it would create on the forum, and the tons of bad false propaganda it would create in that scene. because in the end, the customers (that with the everything + the kitchen sink licence) got something now instead of having to wait for live 9.
so all is well and it's business as usual, and they continue the bugfixing as they should. and the forum is a mess and filled with bullshit hating and ranting and false accusions and lies all the way, just as it was since i went in here the first time. so, business as usual.
