Ableton Live 8.2
Re: Ableton Live 8.2
I Went on to the IK multimedia web site last night and got the latest version of sample tank (2.1.4) - was released in April so won't contain this fix, but does seem much more stable than any previous version I've tried. Not tested it in anger though, so time will tell.
edit...
OK I just tried my standard test !!! Don't do this at home unless you have your monitors turned down very low !!!
load up Live 8.2
Create 2 midi tracks with an instance of ST on each.
select any sound in each instance
add the rotary speaker effect to one or both sounds
create a midi clip with a few notes in on one of the tracks and then launch that clip.
kaboom!
Crash report submitted!

I play Amp with humbuckers and i turn all the gates off.Pasha wrote:........
So for me the verdict is that I will definitively use AMP and CAB because I like them/need them.
I know (this also happens with hardware FX) that having a Fender means walking in the room until
you find the hum & noise cancellation spot to record clean. Anybody tested with humbuckers?

The noise is similar to what you would expect from a real tube amp.
I think most of the rack presets for amp and cabinet have too many effects on them
I simply put Amp and cabinet and tweak to get the basic tone.
I think the strength of amp and cabinet is the simplicity and the speed in tweaking the sound you want.
If you want to change the amp then you do it with just one click of a mouse.
Also the dry/wet knobs are great !! That's really unique approach to getting interesting tones.
You can put 2 instances of Amp in the chain with just 3% wet signal on the output just to colour the sound.
This is what makes the Amp better in my opinion then others guitar sims.
What i miss is a lack of chromatic tuner in ableton.
I use GTune at the moment and it is OK (http://www.gvst.co.uk/)
But tuner for ableton would be great.
The most important is that the Amp sounds really nice !! I love it.
Thank you Ableton
cheers

I agree about the tuner. Ableton engineers apparently are not guitarists....
Or any string players, come to think of it..... (not to mention lute....

Re: Ableton Live 8.2
you'll get no complaints and at least one thanks for a tuner here...
that would mean not having to unplug anything to tune it... that saves the jacks on my pre-amp... a little money on 9 volt batteries, and a dash of time either doing all that or looking for the tuner.
yes please!
edit: knowing Ableton and how Live works in general, I can see other uses for this device too...
it could go well beyond getting your guitar/bass ready for recording. yes, this could be a very sweet addition.

Are there really no free tuner plugins for osx. I find that very hard to believe.
And yes if you are really stuck you can use Spectrum.

I have used it and no joy. I prefer tuning using Garage Band instead (which can be launched while Live is running)massenmedium wrote:Are there really no free tuner plugins for osx. I find that very hard to believe.

I have a hardware tuner and its great. I won't be downloading any third party options because none will beat it. The only thing that would top it is the convenience/cool/use it in new ways factor should Ableton decide to implement one of their own.massenmedium wrote:Are there really no free tuner plugins for osx. Re: Ableton Live 8.2
it defently wouldnt hurt to have a tuner plug.. maybe the can do one that is generating midi notes and gate and pitchbend data out of the input...and quick..H20nly wrote:I have a hardware tuner and its great. than...with the aid of hexaphonic pickups the guitarist will be really pleased and live would enter new terretory instead allways just followig the others with 3 years distance.. The ableton i used to know in the past was more something like theese teenage engineering guys.. But.now they are a propper german company.. and in the music biz german companys like to follow the market leaders.

Well exactly, I imagine most guitar players will have several tuners knocking about. I only mention plugins because a number of people on the Amp thread as well as this one were going on about wanting a built-in tuner.H20nly wrote:I have a hardware tuner and its great. You've already polluted this thread with 18 pages of complaining for the sake of complaining. I know minimal techno is all about repetition, but isn't that pushing it? Can't we just call it a day here?
Re: Ableton Live 8.2
?? dicking around or do you have some usefull input to the discussion about tuners and possebilitys behind pitctracking devices?
maybe call it a day and have a beer somwhere and doing this grunge sounds to your bar neighbor?

Oh, I'm sorry, were you looking for meaningful discussion of Ableton features and functionality but instead got a vacuous quagmire of resolution-less complaining?
Here - let me keep this up for about 18 more pages and then we can have a nice heart-to-heart on the topic.
