APC40 Remapping issue?
Hi guys,
I want to remap some of the buttons/sliders etc on my APC to control other functions than the presets allow. The only way i can get MIDI learn to work is by turning off the APC as a control surface (effectively turning it into a normal MIDI controller). Can i not keep the presets as they are (clip launch = clip launch) and change some od the other buttons? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi theoptimist,
you should be able to remap the functions of your APC as soon as you activate "track" and "remote" for the APC´s listed Midi ports, having it selected as a control surface at the same time should be no problem. Which version of Live do you use?
Best,
Jörg

Re: APC40 Remapping issue?
Hi Jorg,
Im using 7.0.16, could that be the problem? Im guessing i can keep the controller presets as they are and just change the function of a few of the buttons etc.. right? You dont have to remap the entire controller if you want to change one thing do you?

Im able to remap the controller when i turn off control surface but you lose the LEDs then unless you sync it back up, and then you lose the presets when you do that????

hi optimist,
sorry, unable to reproduce the problem over here. Remapping works like a charm with 7.0.16 while the control surface is selected, LEDs as well. Do you use any other Midi controllers? Anything else in your setup that you think might interfere?

Re: APC40 Remapping issue?
Sorry im not explaining myself properly. The remapping works fine in Ableton. Im trying to remap functions in NIs Massive synth. Thats where MIDI learn does not work unless you turn off the APC as a control surface and then you lose all the rest of the presets.
Re: APC40 Remapping issue?
Found this old thread and I wonder if there's any update on this?
When using Live's MIDI mapping, I can use APC-40 knobs to control VSTs.
But when trying to use MIDI learn of a VST, I haven't been able to make it use APC-40.
Some VST UIs have a LED that blinks when MIDI input is received. When turning APC-40 knobs, these MIDI LEDs don't blink.
So it seems these VSTs do not receive MIDI data.
So: has anybody been able to use MIDI learn of some VST or is there some known problem which prevents this?
And if you ask why just not use Live's MIDI mapping, in some cases VSTs own midi learn doesn't have the same limitations as Live's midi mapping.
