Assigning stuff.........

Again - apologies if there's been a forum on this already but I'm having probems assigning effects to my midi keyboard

For example with Ping Pong delay - I can easily assign the turning on and off button to a knob or fader on my midi controller, however I don't seem to be able to assign the little x-y pad section which you move with the mouse to any controllers.
I'm not sure if this is even assignable, but the reason I ask is because when i click on the midi assign button, the little circle in the grid section of ping pong (or other effects for that matter) does kind of allow me to click it and highlight it. But it seems that it just won't become assigned.

Any ideas? Is this even possible?

under the pad screen there is 2 buttons where you can select witch control you want to assign to x & y
