Really? Well, that's one opinion. I'm having a blast with it. I've always wanted the actual, physical Reactable but can't afford one (yet), but this virtual iPhone/iPad version uses all the same concepts as it's big brother, so not sure what the joke is.john gordon wrote:worst 10 bucks ive ever spent.what a jokedelicioso wrote:ReacTable Mobile now released for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad:

It has a couple of oscillators which you can affect with filters, modulators, waveshapers, lfos, delays; You can load up your own samples and do the usual (speed them up, slow them down, reverse them); there's a couple of sequencers which you can run as a monophonic sequencer, a poly grid sequencer or a random sequencer; you can add the accelerometer object to affect any other sound/modulation object and there is even an input object so you can use your voice through the filters or delays or whatever... and all of these "objects" have several options to tweak your sound/settings.
Seems pretty fun and worth a measly 10 bucks to me... Just another opinion.
Maybe this well help?

I guess its great for students, and folks who want to learn synth basics. For writing music, id guess most people here would rather use conventional synth/sequencing apps. However, if I had an iPad, I might buy it, to be able to easily teach curious newbie friends.

Jasuto Pro does all that. Sounds really good too.
How do they compare, if you've tried both.
ReacTable looks very nice anyway but I think I'd avoid it on the smaller devices.

Re: The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Resource Thread
Hi,
I have bought ReacTable for my iPhone 3GS. It seems more like a funny musical utility than a real tool to compose music. The number of objects you can use is limited (1 delay, 3 samplers, 2 oscillator, etc...) for the whole session. The sequencer's UI is too small on the iPhone to improvise notes in real time (the squares in the grid are too tiny).
This means, as a first opinion, that Reactable on iPhone is a cool demonstration of the concept and of the audio possibilities of the iPhone in front of friends, but I think it will be really difficult to make a complete set.
I find it as a software like Korg DS-10 for the Nintendo DS, with less possibilities. Perhaps ReacTable for iPad is more complete. It could be cool if there was MIDI clock synchro (perhaps with iOS 4.2).
I have never tried the real ReacTable or Jasuto.

Ive got Jasuto Pro. Havent got a sound out of it yet. Its very menu based, and I find those music apps creative flow killers. That Reactable app seems like the right way to go for these types of synth/sequencers. But if you just want to make music in a fun and simplistic way on your touch device, I highly recomend Nano Studio. Reactable is great for learning the basics quick. But using if to write music for an audience.. I dont know.. Well, it would bore the hell out of me, thats for shure.massenmedium wrote:Jasuto Pro does all that. Sounds really good too.

Re: The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Resource Thread
I think it's kind of misleading to say Jasuto Pro is very menu based. There are menus to pick objects and so on but a lot of it is based on a graphical interface similar to ReacTable that actually makes use of the space as a way of designing sounds.
It's very powerful, a great synthesis engine actually, but as with a lot of these things it's inevitably going to be a bit fiddly on those 3.5" screens.
NanoStudio is very impressive, though obviously much more trad.

Yes, I can see the iPhone/iPod touch as a little sketchbook when travelling in the train, due to the little size of the screen. iPad is certainly more adapted for serious composition or performance.

That would be Pianist Pro. A very nice little app with MIDI functionality and shockingly good piano/organ samples.

Re: The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Resource Thread
Akai just upgraded SynthStation to version 1.21 and all complaints I previously had are pretty much gone now.
They upgraded the resolution to make it compatible with iPhone 4 and iPad (much prettier on those). And, more importantly, they made the whole interface a lot snappier.
I was especially annoyed by the noticeable latency on the virtual keyboard which is now gone. It's really fun to play it now.
NanoStudio is probably still superior as a full featured "mobile DAW" and sequencer but I love SynthStation as a mobile synth/drum rack for creating sounds, live performance and sampling into a desktop DAW.
It's definitely worth the money now.
