BCR2000 is driving me crazy!

Post by pedroschki » Sat Oct 02, 2010 10:04 am

Wondering if anyone could help…

Have recently got a new laptop, running Windows 7 (32 bit), Live 7, BCR2000, Faderfox, Launchpad.

On my old laptop, everything worked fine, so assume there’s no problems with the hardware… however with the new set up I’m running into problems getting the BCR2000 working.

Eventually it will work, but I have to load up live, turn the ports on the BCR2000 on and off, close it down, switch BCR2000 on and off a few times, repeat process a few times. Then it will work for a short while until I load up a set, then it stops working. Finally I’ll repeat the process again (usually takes about 20 minutes) and it will work like clockwork, with not a hitch!

For some reason the 3rd midi port on the BCR is highlighted as ‘orange’ in the midi preferences (and when I load up Max5 runtime for monome emulator, it also comes up with a message saying it’s having problems opening that particular midi port), so I suspect this has something to do with it? Also, after I’d first installed all the various drivers for sound cards, etc, Live hung whilst it was loading. The next time I loaded it, I seem to recall it coming up with an error screen explaining that it wouldn’t open this BCR2000 port in future.

I’ve tried reinstalling all the drivers, but no joy there. Anyone got any ideas? Help would be much appreciated, it’s driving me insane having to spend the best part of half an hour trying what seems like a random combination of things to finally get it up and running! Perhaps a reinstall of live may work?

If you're connecting through USB, I'm going to assume you have a problem with USB power. I had similar issues (though not nearly as bad) with a BCR2000 on Vista, which turned out to be related to having too many things plugged into my USB hub. Try another port perhaps?

I ended up getting a simple MIDI-USB interface, and using the BR2000 in MIDI ports mode (S-2? Was that the number for this mode? I can't quite remember) through that interface. I suspect the BCR2000 USB hardware is a bit spotty. But this worked fine after some setup.

Cheers.

...have tried switching USB ports, but no joy there unfortunately. Will give it a blast through a MIDI connection sometime, hopefully that will make a difference.

In the meantime I'll look forward to the day when things just work! Could be waiting a while though....
