I meant primitive as in first generation. They're limited by the hardware they're running on. The actual theoretical envelope shapes are fine - the problem is that the processors aren't quick enough to give a nice shape at all speeds. It's much the same with the Prophet T8, Juno 106, Jupiter-6 and others. Compare the sound of those EGs to hardware EGs or later machines with faster processors and the difference is surprising.
But the Xpander is a nice synth though... but for bass I'd probably use something else.
