"...could not be read. it may be corrupt or not licensed."
"[files] could not be read. it may be corrupt or not licensed."
I suddenly started getting this message for certain files. mp3s, wavs, doesn't matter - Live is simply refusing to load some files. Very random, has never happened before, and it does so even for some files that already have .asd files! (note that it does so for files without .asd's as well.)
What to do?
Live 8.1.3
OSX

Re: "...could not be read. it may be corrupt or not licensed."
I just updated to 8.1.5.
A few files that were not being loaded in 8.1.3, but now files that were loading in 8.1.3 are not loading in 8.1.5 (same error).
Any advice??

I arbitrarily changed the location of my decoding cache and it seems to be working fine now. ???

Hi eggnchips - please get in touch with Ableton technical support about this: http://www.ableton.com/support. Thank you.
Re: "...could not be read. it may be corrupt or not licensed."
FYI: I just had this problem as well, in case my solution helps anyone else who lands here via google.
It turned out my drive was almost full (~500MB free) and so it didn't have enough space to cache the files I was trying to load. I got a more detailed error message when I double-clicked on the file (instead of the misleading status bar message about "corrupt or not licensed").
I had this problem a bunch of months back, and I think the fix was different that time. So I think the "corrupt or not licensed" status bar message needs to be axed, because it seems to pop up for a variety of other problems.

Got the same problem when I switched from Vista to Win7, fresh formatted disk, exact same location for mp3s, same size of cache.
I found that by default the ableton mp3 decoder cant handle all kind of mp3, so I installed the followings :
Lame encoder/decoder v 3.98.4 : http://www.free-codecs.com/Lame_Encoder_download.htm
Lame DirectShow filter : http://www.free-codecs.com/download/LAM ... Filter.htm
Lame ACM MP3 Codec : http://www.free-codecs.com/download/LAME_ACM_Codec.htm
and it solved all problems.

Hi, I have had some problems almost like that, it seems that some third party max4live devices (in my case "jc reversr" or "zwift!!!" -available free from maxforlive.com) may generate audiofiles in the background somehow-which next time you open are unreadable to ableton (and any other audioplayer for that sake). When I went through my different project samples folders and threw out everything unreadable, the ableton-session would open again.LethalRush wrote:"[files] could not be read. it may be corrupt or not licensed."
