I'm really don't want to start this conversation but I'm having hard time to get tight sync when sequencing external stuff from Ableton. Then again sequencing for example Evolver with my MD feels much tighter + it's suits my workflow better (parameter locks you know). But programming musical content to midi out-tracks of MD is a bit limited and somewhat time consuming, but Monomachine has smarter design for that and I think it will be the hardware sequencer I was looking for (+ it has 6 quite decent synth engines). Sequencing Evolver and SEM with Monomachine and fxing output in Live must feel like divine intervention every night.Machinesworking wrote:Blasphemy!LeifonMars wrote:Instead of SEM, I placed an order for Monomachine.![]()
SEM will have to wait.
Monomachine because of its seq.![]()
That thing looks fun, I'm an analogue hardware fan though.
To me anyway hardware = analogue gear, and software is where digital lives!![]()
An intuitive and fun to use hardware sequencer is hard to beat.
Hardware synth for angry bass? :)

Didnt think so....dna598 wrote:Any examples of your amazingly angry and heavy bass? Myself and the OP im sure would really like to hear it.Machinesworking wrote:Yeah, sounds FM as hell. Not bad, but not the heaviest bass sound.dna598 wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VI5CIY8 ... re=related
I got a funny feeling the bass in this was made on operator.
I get that you like it, but I don't personally think FM synths are that great for that "Dubstep" style bass sound.
Too clinical.
When people start talking about step sequencers in a thread about making angry dnb bass it becomes utterly clear that the pretentious types in here have no idea about the subject matter and have never made a tough dnb tune in your pretentious little lives.

Eh? I actually was looking for an example of Evolver in angry action but did not find anything that would not have to be uploaded first. I was even thinking that I'd post Clarks growls garden http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMS3gqc7 ... re=related as an example of similar bass sound that is easily achieved with Evolver, but since I have no idea which synth it is I thought better not to (the sound I'm talking about starts at 2:08). I'm sorry I participated highjacking this thread. And you're right: I've never made a dnb tune in my life. But my life sure ain't pretentious.dna598 wrote:

Got to head out, but anything really by these guys.

My off hand guess is they use Massive. I'm not a hardware purist, but OP wanted hardware.
The Evolver is a good choice for bass, no changing that.

I wasnt really referring to you LeifonMars
I think this applies to everyone in here except me and the OP.LeifonMars wrote: I've never made a dnb tune in my life

Re: Hardware synth for angry bass? :)
Just wanted to make sure this was noted.
The request was for heavier angrier bass, and this is.
http://www.myspace.com/brokennoteuk
Like I said I liked the bass on the track you posted dna598, IMO it shows off the weakness and the strength of an FM synth for this sort of thing though.
As far as all your talk about who makes D&B tracks etc. I'm of the opinion that a closed system starves itself.
I messed around with Drum and bass ten years ago, but I think internet based "qualifications" are as silly as internet threats to kick peoples asses.
You posted a track with an FM synth that had a decent dirt to it, and very arguably I posted some dirtier tracks.
The more I listen to this the more I think it's Massive they're using.

Re: Hardware synth for angry bass? :)
The way dna goes on about it you'd swear a dnb bassline can't be made with a hardware synth.
what he doesn't get is this isn't a software V hardware discussion, but that's the flag he's adamant on pitching.
and here's a newsflash btw: 99.99% of those successful, professional musicians who extol the virtues of soft-synths have their commercial tracks mastered with.... you guessed it.... nice hardware. ok, but maybe not the guys dna hangs out with as they can't even operate a synth if we are to take him at his word. You gotta wonder who the real idiot in that equation is. the talentless 'fool' in the limelight making money for doing relatively nothing, or the talented 'nobody' doing all the work.
at the end of the day, if someone asked me what's a good soft-synth for basslines I wouldn't tell them 'a moog voyager, you just need to play around with the oscillator levels and saturation frequencies'

Youre all totally unqualified to be speaking here, and i think you should admit these facts: You dont make dnb, you dont like dnb, and you dont know what synth is being used on any of the examples you posted, and youre not capable of making dirty angry bass yourelves.
The era of dnb the Op likes is made up of emu/akai samplers, analog mixdowns on a desk using those samplers, and cheap distortion pedals on the main synth bass/reese lines.
IN fact he should just sample the bassline off Terrorist by ray keith and shove it through a boss dist pedal. Thats how the basslines on all the early edrush/nico/No -U Turn stuff was done circa 96/97. ALL SAMPLES.
Dum, Ive already told you- your opinion isnt worth shit in this discussion.

I like to start with a simple lowered octave sine wave, I subject it to hours of ridicule and personal 'motha' jokes. I then cover the wave in lashings of mud and grime. I find that that helps in creating a very dirty, angry bass indeed.

My initial post was meant innocently and to be helpful, with no desire to turn this into a geeky "soft vs hard" war. Judging by Dums join date and his sheer number of posts, I doubt he has made any music this year, or perhaps released any?
haha. Love it.
