Best way to remix a song.
Best way to remix a song.
I have a few songs in mind that I would like to remix using ableton.....But I am not sure how to remix correctly. I was wondering what people do when they remix a song. The way I had in mind is
beatwarp the track
play it over and over again and make my own synth/bass/drums ect.
Play with the EQ
Than match them up???
Not really sure where to go from here. Any advice would be extremely helpful.
Some examples of the remixes I am going for...

I imagine it would be somewhat helpful if you had the individual parts to the song or the acapella. Word on the street is your lack of guile subjects to fail at any attempt at "remixing".

thats exactly the way to go.. many remixes on he market are done without extra stems..
withe the aid of smart equing and spectral dynamics you try to get the voice out ..and by having own synth and beat lines that fit above the original ones you can mask them...
the rest is editing and groove design...
of cause its great to have the production masters..but when you do a good remix and the band or label likes them you might get the produktion masters and a budget to mix it again.. otherwise its anyway just an illigal bootleg mix..so you dont need to bother too much about sound quality

I disagree, Sound quality is the number 1 goal of any production.

tell that to 'eels'. emotion is what counts. quality is then the icing of the cake. but the actual track has to be great first, even in a not perfect sound quality.

emotion is important of course, no point in recording a bad song is there? But what makes a good song comes down to subjective opinion. A producer should always be striving for the best possible quality sound and never accept just "ok".

Re: Best way to remix a song.
as said, quality is unimportant. if you know how eels recorded his music, and how it sounds, and how great it is, then you knew what i ment.
and all he said is, if it's "just a bootleg", there's no need for expensive mastering.
oh, and, what we love about live performances is the humanity of it, means, the errors. and quality at a concert normally is much worse than listening at home in a perfect setup.
emotion >>>> quality.

making poor quality recordings will always end in you failing at song production and you'll never learn. You have to push yourself; using "emotion" to cover poor production skill is quite pathetic.

u made the point that in order to cover up for your poor production skills, and unwillingless to put the hard work in to learn, you state "emotion" (a subjective opinion), makes up for it, a rather ridiculous point to be fair.

Re: Best way to remix a song.
no. i made a point that it is not always the goal to make a perfect production track. maybe it's just a suprise track for one evening, and you quickly mash something up. no need to pay 100ts to mastering studios to get it perfect. tons of other cases exist. eels never mastered anything, but was with an 8 track, sitting in a closet, while being in a one-room place near the airport. nothing of this screams quality, yet the tracks are loved and sound great.
if you create a bootleg, you don't have to go for biggest most perfect quality. you obviously do your best, but you don't pay others for their best.
but, you won't get it, anyways.
