itunes changes ableton mix..grrrr!

Post by massivesax » Wed Oct 06, 2010 9:26 pm

hi folks,

just coming to an end of our first album and exported a couple of tracks that we've just mixed in ableton 8 to itunes... unfortunately itunes seems to have affected the balance of the mixes somehow... brass parts now too loud.. etc. is this just due to mp3 compression maybe? how do I compensate for this in ableton... any suggestions on how to combat this would be much appreciated...?

Cheers

Hi,

Could be a number of things:
What settings did you use when exporting?
What settings did you use when converting the wav/aif to mp3?
Is the "sound enhancer" off in iTunes preferences?

if the lame sound-enhancement function is turned off, iTunes isn't doing anything to your mix.

mixdowns can sound different once played back simply due to volume level changes between your DAW and your iTunes, or conceivably there's something errant going on in your mixdown process.

but aside from the sound-enhancer (which by default i believe is set to Off), it 'aint iTunes.
