oh dear I've just realized I need an APC40 with a keyboard

Post by jimmynitcher » Thu Oct 07, 2010 5:17 pm

anyone else?

Wonder if it will happen...?

I'm using it as a step sequencer for beats, bass and perc/weirdness and its so much fun not needing the mouse to write stuff, but pads with a step sequencer hmm got to work on that one

It's already bulky enough as it is. I don't see them attaching even more to it.

*DON'T* get a nanokey, they're garbage, the keys will all pop off at the slightest touch, and they click against each other and have no sensitivity at all. If you're going to go the micro-route, get an akai lpk25, I've only owned a nanokey, so I don't know how much better it is, but just from looking at one, the superior build quality is obvious.

Check out NativeKONTROL's apC-CL2. It offers a Scale, Chord and Learn mode. Good stuff.

Thanks, I just realized about the cost - with Bomes it's not cheap, so this is much appreciated.

The nativeKontrol script includes a Bomes runtime. It's an all inclusive package and they just released version 3 which is massive (and it's a free upgrade from version 2. It also has a step sequencer and other new tools.

(Edit) It's actually got more features than even the NEW video has... He just released the new features like 3 days ago.)

Anyone compared these? At first glance the Nativecontrol stuff is easier to appreciate - the videos help.

On the other hand I have a dormant FCB1010 and the scripts have a combo with the APC which is intriguing - guess I should just try it as its free.

Thanks for the tip about the Bomes runtime, didn't spot that.

I've used both and personally NativeKontrol is better, it covers a lot more than the Remotescripts one.

Eg 'note modes' have velocity, octave shift, pitch bend and mod wheels in nativekontrol but it only uses 16 buttons for notes (16 keyboard style). Remotescripts have note modes with up to 48 note buttons for memory but don't have velocity, octave shift, PB or mod.

Also the different note modes in Nativekontrol are very different to each other and are useful for different situations. Remotescripts are different layouts of the same function (notes go up buttons vs left to right).

Having said that, I did spend some time last night using the step sequencer from Remotescripts and think its the best. Really enjoyable way of working for me that suites the way I do things.

You can have the both remotescripts and nativekontrol scripts both installed and just change midi preferences which is what I do when I want to do something thats easier the other way. This is because I get conflicts selecting different track control modes (both scripts use shift+pan-send c) using the latest CL3+TC3 script from nativekontrol. Not sure if just CL3 script would conflict with remotescripts, I think remotescripts step sequencer mode selector would conflict with navigation mode in the latest version but aren't sure.

NativeKontrol is definitely worth the asking price and I say get it. Remotescripts if free so why not get it as well. They both have their strengths but nativekontrol has fewer weaknesses so thats where I spend 95% of my time.
