I'm not into multiplayer, but the campaign was probably the best of the whole series.

I think the campaign was wonderful, especially the cut-scenes and the amazing matte paintings for the backdrops. The only gripe I really had was with the characters. They didn't really feel too fleshed out, and Bungie has tendency to include minimal dialogue (I think they want players to portray their own image onto the charaters or something, I don't know). I wish they gave each individual character a bit more time in the light, as I couldn't connect to many of them like I could with other video game characters (i.e. John Marston in Red Dead Redemption, or even John-117).

The multiplayer is a lot of fun, especially the new forge tools (though I thought the Forge World would have been bigger, like, the whole $#!@ing island). Kind of mifffed that they turned parts of the campaign missions into multiplayer maps, but that's kind of a minor gripe.

Have you tried Firefight? I've honestly really enjoyed it (and it's not so cut-throat as something like, Team Slayer or anything competitive like that).

Yeah Firefight does look a little more my speed. Actually I would totally play through the campaign on Co-op. My gamer tag is my Nick in all caps.

STRINGTAPPER?

Alright, I'll go ahead and add you - my gamertag is, ah, Silwolffe - big surprise! I'm actually playing co-op with a buddy of mine on legendary, but the campaign is short and we're over halfway done.

Campaign was the shit, but the ending doesnt actually make sense. multiplayer is cool, but i dont think it will have the same long term success as halo 3

What makes Halo better/different than any other first person shooter console game?

As a campaign, halo has created a pretty impressive storyline, and critics even compare it to major motion pictures or works of literature (might be a stretch.) the whole concept/characters/environment is also really revolutionary. Now that we have half a dozen halo titles out there, we kind of take for granted that before halo, there was nothing really like it that pulled it off succesfully (half life maybe). the backstory is really strong and the gameplay is unique so it makes you want to keep going.

from a gameplay standpoint, it is pretty top notch as well. the multiplayer has found a way to turn it into a very competitive market, where the play is fair enough that it mimics real life competitions in its make-up. not that other games dont do these things, but halo is just a really solid game, with good graphics, gameplay, and story. not much else you could want!

I would encourage even non-halo fans to check reach out though, they really pulled out all the stops in this one, apparently the bungie (creators) team quadrupled in size for this project, and it really shows, the envrionments are unique and very thorough, the intensity you would expect from a "war" type game is definitely omnipresent, and the cut scenes (although sometimes lame) are really well done, and are almost cineman quality.

ok, end of my geek parade.

Could you be any more vague?

But I'll help out. Compare Halo to something like Fallout, Bioshock, or even GTA.

Question really depends on the individual. Some will say the multiplayer is the reason why they play, while others enjoy it for the campaign and storyline. I won't say Halo is better than other first person shooters, because that is really a matter of opinion. I also don't play a lot of first-person shooters, so my scope is pretty much limited at best. I did, however, play Half-Life2 and I can say I did -not- enjoy Half Life at all, and thought of it to be an incredibly over-hyped, aggravating game to play. I do, however, love Call of Duty and Bioshock, though for replay value I would definitely put my money on Halo just on account of the overall storyline and the multiplayer.

I love Halo for a lot of reasons. It's a combination of story, campaign, and multiplayer. The story is your typical aliens vs. humans setup, but with a little twist. I'll write a quick cliff-notes summary, although it really wouldn't do the game justice. Basically, you have this band of aliens known as the Covenant who embark on a religious campaign called the 'Great Journey.' In order to begin their Great Journey, they need to 'activate' a Covenant-proclaimed sacred relic known as Halo (there are multiple Halos). Halo was built by an extinct race known as the forerunners, and is a containment facility and a weapon to hold back a parasitic lifeform known as the Flood. While the Covenant know about the Flood, they don't really understand Halo's purpose. If Halo is activated, it's basically lights out for the galaxy. The whole story is basically fighting against the Covenent, holding back the Flood, and trying to stop the rings from firing.

Halo: Reach is the prelude to the trilogy, and doesn't really deal with the Halos, John-117, or The Flood.

Potential spoiler: Reach is basically one big massive planet that gets fucked by the Covenant, and is absolutely obliterated. You play as a power ranger in Noble team, and you pretty much witness the events unfold first-hand from the first strike all the way to the planet's glassing.

Here's a video filled with cutscenes for the 'space' mission. Will probably spoil some of it, but if you're just trolling and don't plan to play it that's fine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5aSXiZTHiY Note: You can hear the player's friend's voices over xbox live, it sounds like NASA communication - just ignore it, even though it's really goddamn annoying listening to it.

and if you want a 'true' review of the game instead of reading my bullshit, you can just watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXmS6i_g4Zs

Cool.

I'm not a big gamer but feel that essentially all first person shooters are the same game wrapped in different graphics. Ease of control and storyline are the big difference. I don't have an xbox and have never played Halo. All I know is a certain percentage of the population shits themselves whenever a new one comes out.

I'd say my favorite is probably Bioshock mostly for the atmosphere. I don't do online playing and really don't replay games either. Great first time offline run is good enough for me.
