u-he ACE patch contest - plug in!

Hey, thought I'd drop a note about this contest on KVR - http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=299003

More details are in that thread, but basically - submit a patch or two for u-he's ACE, possibly win some u-he software (which is really great stuff, all of it). Not a huge time sink, and pretty fun if ACE floats your boat.

this is great... I'm going to have to get working on some patches! ACE is my favorite.

this plug is pretty good on the analog emulation side.. only in some extrem osc modulation settings you get the typical digital plug in crunch..and the tweak parameter and tuning page are really great and show that the guy knows about analog emulation..
even with envelope balistics tweak.. maybe i give it a try..

miss a bit an inverter section for mod signals and the ability t scale modulatios in realtion to each other..


thought the patch modules in the like in the low left corner would profide this.. but on a quick look they seem to pass any signal at the mod input just thru..

at least i missed such little things on the first patch try.. its quite a waste to engage the secon lfo just to get an inversion of it for example.. but maybe ther are other ways to get that done.. will have a closer look later...

One way would be to set the phase knob on the second LFO from 50 to 0 (or offset 1/2 the knob's range) - for proof try a square wave at the default '50.00' versus at '0.00' - the former is _down_-up- while the latter is -up-_down_ :)

It's a little funny with ACE, it's sticking so close to a model that's less 'virtual' than a lot of virtual analog synths, sometimes the ways to do things are pretty different, occasionally surprising ...

a few little tools for the modular part would not have hurt, like an inverter or patchable vca
however interesting.. only thing on the analog emulation side would be maybe scale parameters for the osc´s.
The crosstalk parametre is actally great.. i wonde wha gets crosstalked here because i might like to mod my real analog with such a crosstalk feature ;-)

Hehe, you can use the Multiples as both inverters and vcas.

Check out "Multiples as amplitude modulator (AM)" in the user guide (the pdf that comes with the download). Patch +5v into the "mod" socket, then any signal in sockets 3 and 4 will be inverted on the output.

And of course, amplifying one signal by another is pretty much the same as ringmodulation. Patch anything into sockets 1 and 2 of a Multiple and use the "mod" socket e.g. for the ModWheel or anything. The gain knob on the left then determines how many percent of the full range is controlled by the modulating input.

Another thing is, unlike analogue machines, most modulation inputs have bipolar controls. Thus inverters are rarely needed.
