Max costs $700. Max for Live costs $300. M4L is actually a smoking deal to get Max with the only major limitation being that you're not able to make standalone devices.

So in other words, good luck with that.

Keep an eye out on these forums - people sometimes put their licence up for sale. For example, see this thread:

http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php? ... hilit=ebay

I was recently lucky and bought a M4L licence off a forum member for about £120, but I'd say the full asking price is a bargain already.

Unless of course you're referring to being unable to create executables, iirc that is also not possible with Max
You didn't. Max is capable of creating stand-alone applications.

cheers.

Doh!

Indeed; totally overlooked the obvious: "Build collective / application".

Thanks for correcting me on that!

errrr... Now I need to rectify my blog too; although I'm not too far off that a runtime can come in handy ;-)
Right, those are the "standalones" I'm talking about. :)

@h20 Only haha funny stuff

This has been pretty insightful.

I am starting to master live and I need something new to hop into. I feel like Max might be that thing.

I'm really into creating unique sounds that aren't like anything you have heard before. I believe this is what enables artists to stand out in this enourmous sea of electronic music. I wanna make poeple think "HOLY SHIT WHAT IS THAT?"

I have money and I can afford Max, I guess I was just hoping to get lucky. If any of you guys have serials to sell me PM me and I will pay ya. I'll probobly buy max in about 2 months so in the meantime maybe someone will come along who couldn't figure it out or just gave up haha.

Thanks for debating.

It also seems like some of you haven't yet fully grasped it which is also exciting maybe I can catch up pretty quick.

Thanks guys,

While I can't help you out (oh; for the record: although I do think its worth every penny you won't hear me commenting on you trying. if you can save a buck you'd be foolish not to try) I do wish to say that I think you're on the right track.

Max for Live maybe difficult to learn (for some people anyway) it will allow you to open up options and possibilities which simply don't exist yet and which may seem totally impossible.

I am biased here (make no mistake about it) but I really think it can be fully worth it.
Peter, I just visited your website, and by the looks of it, you are most certainly quite the fan :D

Very interesting stuff indeed!

I think I will suck it up and purchase it and hopefully we can talk after I start using it. Maybe, if im lucky, even a small skype tutorial from the master!?

I can't wait, and I will let you know what I think when I get my copy up and running, you have me convinced!
