Re: Solid state drives?
Bump, called tech support on that drive and am awaiting an email back with the seek time latency.
All told looks to be a good drive for about $80 less thAn the competition. With a USB enclosure included.

I've been looking at buying an SSD drive but it is so confusing.
First you have brand to choose from.
Then the controller manufactures for those brands.
Then those controllers have different revisions of fireware.
It is hardly an easy exercise to find something you know is going to be best performance for the money.

I'm a little tech challenged. How do you tell if a ssd is for laptop or desktop.
Re: Solid state drives?
I believe they have a caddy or a bracket that comes with them that will fit into a 3.5" bay.chaibuka wrote:I'm a little tech challenged. How do you tell if a ssd is for laptop or desktop.

more or less, 2.5" drives will fit in most laptops, 3.5" drives are desktop sized. or as mentioned above, you can use a 2.5" in a desktop machine with an adaptor/caddy thingo.chaibuka wrote:I'm a little tech challenged. How do you tell if a ssd is for laptop or desktop.

Thanks, So the power and communications plug must be the same for both laptop and desktop.fishmonkey wrote:more or less, 2.5" drives will fit in most laptops, 3.5" drives are desktop sized. or as mentioned above, you can use a 2.5" in a desktop machine with an adaptor/caddy thingo.chaibuka wrote:I'm a little tech challenged. most computers these days use SATA connectors, which are the same size for both 2.5" and 3.5" drives.chaibuka wrote:Thanks, So the power and communications plug must be the same for both laptop and desktop.fishmonkey wrote:more or less, 2.5" drives will fit in most laptops, 3.5" drives are desktop sized. or as mentioned above, you can use a 2.5" in a desktop machine with an adaptor/caddy thingo.chaibuka wrote:I'm a little tech challenged. older computers may use IDE connectors, which are completely different.
