worst 10 bucks ive ever spent.what a joke
Agree. The interface looks nifty and you are tricked into thinking this somehow does something useful. You can get the exact same sound in Operator in 10 seconds and the "table" interface does not have any impact on creativity.

It's a silly toy.

Synthpond is way more interesting. http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2008/ ... he-iphone/

Nano Studio 1.1 is out! :)

Features:

* Audio copy/paste - both Intua and Sonoma standards
* MIDI file import/export
* Support for the Line 6 MIDI Mobilizer
* Project import/export (self contained projects complete with samples packaged in a single file)
* Direct SoundCloud export from phone
* More mixdown options - individual track split, song regions, render tail option
* Pan controls in mixer
* Note preview in piano roll view when selecting and dragging
* Complete backup/restore of unsaved Eden presets when the app is closed or a call is taken
* Eden preset numbers now begin from zero, not one (this is to match preset changes made via MIDI)
* New (empty) global bank C for Eden
* Increased sample size limit to 8MB
* 'Loop on selection' feature in song editor - sets song loop points to the current selection
* Samples above 8MB can now be previewed in file dialogue (the first 20 seconds)
* MIDI input on Windows version
* NanoSync - Support for 24 bit wavs, copying folders and older PowerPC machines
* Snap to centre zero on pan knobs

Just curious... you folks using nanostudio, beatmaker, or the like to sketch ideas on the go... what headphones are you using with your iphone or ipod touch (or ipad)? I use the apple in-ear headphones (the previous generation, not the current ones with the mic), and I think for $40 they are pretty great - decent amount of bass, decent sound overall.

does nanostudio allow you to record audio tracks (e.g., vocals, acoustic guitar)? i think the answer is no. do any of these pocket DAW apps allow that?

if so, how do people get a decent (though obviously just for sketch purposes) audio signal into their iphone? using the onboard mic?

thanks.

I use Shure E2c's with my iPhone. NanoStudio doesn't have an audio track yet, but it's coming in an update according to the developer. Currently you can record and make small samples with the drum machine or the synth. Unfortunately Apple changed the way IO is handled on the newer iPhones, so things like Alesis ProTrack and Blue Mikey no longer work. Haven't seen much else about mics for the i4, but I bet they're coming shortly.

Does Nanostudio let you take a loop and fit to the song tempo?

Since there don't seem to be any apps that do both multitrack sequencing and loops, it seems best to have some apps to create your own loops and some to bring them together and manipulate/arrange.
I've been looking at a few apps and I'm basically trying to figure out the best combo of:
-Something to write sequences (instruments/drums/synths) and export loops and..
-Something to bring loops together that you can then sequence and tweak with effects and other manipulation.

I've checked out xenon, wasn't too impressed actually. And checked out Sunvox which so far is confusing me, but didn't spend much time with it. Looks like maybe something like Beatmaker, nanostudio and elctrify might be a nice combo. Thoughts?

Also, what about getting guitar licks in? I've seen the amplitube, but can you record over a loop somehow and then export to bring into a looping program?

The upcoming BeatMaker2 will have timestretch. And since NanoStudio now supports copy/paste including the Intua standard, the two of them will be a nice mobile combo.

Oh, I was thinking of Beatmaker as a loop making tool to bring into something else. So you're saying it could be the loop playing tool as well? How many loops will it load? Where did you get the details of the V2 features? Timestretch could just mean timestretching individual hits and not necessarily matching a loop to the song tempo.

Nanostudio: I sample straight into the sampler. Finally a soft sampler that actually samples. ;) Mostly my voice. The mic aint to bad, and latency is great. I wish for "play in background" funktion when sampling though.

Ive blown 2 standard apple earplug sets already with NS. :D

Looks like Beatmaker 2 will be the top dog sampler out there. Nanostudio's synths are cool but the beat making features are pretty basic. It would be nice if there were more effects for the drums to create new drum samples within the app by resampling. The filter only goes so far.
Since beatmaker will do melodic sampling instruments, I think a great way to go will probably be sampling synth tones to use in beatmaker as instruments. Better than instrument loops which are static.

GlitchB: you can sample straight into the synth! Sometimes I create the drum sound there, with a sample. Its got 4 lfos! Then I re-sample it into the drum sampler, to free up the 4 synths for instrumental purpose. NS is a scetch tool, but its super fast, and it sounds great. I rather import a few of my own drum sample creations from my PC. NS is not really made for that kind of sound design. Its better to do it with studio monitors anyway.

NS on 3Gs here. No noticable latency to me. Or, its 10ms, aparently, says the NS developer. On Android its a 100ms!
