If you installed Live or Suite 8.2 already, you can go with the "Program only" download. It does contain the updates to content, basically everything mentioned in the release notes.

Thanks, nice to know

I think it would be helpful if this statement was included every time an update is made available and in an obvious place next to the download link rather than buried in the technical notes.
The same questions get asked every time and a lot of queries and uncertainty could be avoided if a plain English statement like that could be published alongside the download.

+1
Btw. I did the big "with content" one (coming from 8.2) & hundreds of MBs of samples got updated, just wondering about Amaury's statement...

There was quite a bit of library updating going on with the 'program only' install, not samples though I don't think.
Be useful to know for sure, especially the Drum Machines update - what exactly has been changed there?

they'll tweak anything from the samples to the names of the samples. I don't think there's a changelog for the details.
it's a good idea to hit up options-preferences-Library-update Library from time to time, when you don't need Live for a few hours.

Example:
ABLETON 8 LIBRARY/Samples/Waveforms/Drums/Kick/Kick-808/Drum Machines 808-Kick-808.aif
ABLETON 8 LIBRARY/Samples/Waveforms/Drums/Kick/Kick-909/Drum Machines 909-Kick-909.aif
both got new creation/change dates - but compared to a backup are exactly same size (bytes) - so maybe nothing changed, files just got touched & not really updated, as I claimed in my last post...
@Tone: I'm still not sure a "options-preferences-Library-repair Library" connects to their server to compare & download if newer content is available. You're really sure?

what do you think it does? or when you do it what happens?
looks like this topic isn't in the manual.

I think, if you have Live "with content" app installed it looks inside the app & compares the .alp files buried in the .app package with your library.

crap... almost thru downloading the whole 8.21 suite installer, and now I find out I only need the program update.
No biggie, but a simple statement on the download page would go a long way to sort out this confusion.
Eg - "if you have installed the full 8.2 suite update, you will only need to download the 8.21 app".
Still - love the constant updates/ fixes and improvements.
Its a nice change after coming over from Logic 7/8 - where there was no communication from apple at all for like... uh 3 years.

Nice analysis Shelluser,
I went for the full suite installer.. and make a backup of each installer too (regular practice).

Hi,
You may believe it or not, but the "program only" installer contains all necessary updates for your Library, given that you have installed Live 8.2. If you get this installer, you'll see that it contains a lot of update packages. They are small in size because they only contain presets, and no sample.
Of course, in any doubt, you can never go wrong with the big installer.
Kind regards,
Amaury

Updating from Live Suite 8.1.5 to 8.2.1 I have 2 questions :
- is Amp included with the "program only" install?
- installing the full version (with sounds), would my library still be compatible with previous Live versions (from 8.1.3)?
Thanks for your answers…
