Detect tempo question
Detect tempo question
Hi. I have a question:
I have drum track that I've imported into Live 8, played by a drummer with a less-than-constant tempo. I would like to keep the tempo as it is, and match the rest of the tracks to it. I know Ableton can detect transients and I know I can get the drum track to play at a consistent tempo. What I would like to see is the master tempo of the song speed up and slow down as dictated by the drum track. Then, I'd like to sync MIDI to that.
Is this possible? If so, how do I go about it.
Thanks!

Re: Detect tempo question
in arrangement there is a way to create a tempo master using an audio track, its in the manual somewhere
ive never used it but i have heard about it

Re: Detect tempo question
Yeah, I tried that and couldn't get it to work. I was hoping if someone worded it differently it might make more sense to me.

Re: Detect tempo question
get off the grid with your midi. play it in by hand.
Re: Detect tempo question
I'm trying to do things like sync a synth's LFO or VCA to the song's tempo. Or add drum machine on top of the track. The song is already recorded and I don't want to quantize the audio. I want to match the softsynth's behavior to the drums' variable tempo. Can it be done?
Re: Detect tempo question
Or you could try free-handing it to the tempo. Then drag, copy and paste to str8en out.
Re: Detect tempo question
That won't work either. I'm wanting to do something like hold down one note and have it "pulse" (modulate volume with LFO) based on the tempo of the song, which changes dynamically. So the only action I could possibly move around by hand would be that initial note-on command.
I think I'm gonna have to keep going over that section of the manual until it starts to make sense.

Re: Detect tempo question
The old way of warping in Live 7, where you drag the time line around the clip, instead of clip around the timeline, would probably be the better way of doing this..
Re: Detect tempo question
I actually got it to work on accident but after messing around for a while the tempo slowed down on its own and I couldn't get it back. But yeah, it is possible. I was holding down a single note in Pro-53 and the note was pulsing in sync with the drummer. At the same time, the tempo indicator was refreshing every 4 beats or so. Pretty cool trick if I can figure it out again.
Re: Detect tempo question
you need to set the drummer clip as 'master'
and then whatever warp markers you create on there will control the set tempo, rather than warp the clip.

this is explained well here: http://www.jethroe.com/2010/08/30/how-t ... udio-file/
