Automation in live, way more tedious than in most Daws
In live to add a point you have to go to the exact pixel where the automation line is , then you have to DOUBLE click it , then move the point to the desired location.
In other Daws like logic or flstudio , you just click ONCE anywhere in the automation track and it automatically creates the point right there. Much quicker !
CAn we have this ?
come on...

Being an ex-Cubase user, I must agree that the automation in live leaves a lot to be desired!
The 2 absolute essentials that are lacking from automation are:
1) Ability to type a value for a point
2) Ability to snap the automation points
And as a nice to have, it would be great to see curves and the ability to draw shapes like sine waves automatically based on the snap setting.
Hope the Abes are onto this

youve already got it. use the pencil tool instead of the mouse pointer. also right click in your clip or the arrange view to turn the grid off or to an apropriate value.

not true , that is a walkaround , waste of time...

+1 and to add to the list:
I'd like to see the values of the two nearest automation points when I'm dragging the line between two values and even better, the value at the current position. I need to know what the new value is going to be without releasing the mouse.

I would like a sort of palette of curves which would open up by right click and then insert the curve of choice to highlighted region.

'sans' means 'without'. He was agreeing with you.
I think it could be better, but I tend to record most of my automation live now, so not fussed about the piont and click accuracy factor.

Map whatever you want to automate to a knob/fader/button, press record... correct errors/inaccuracies after.

yep,Sage wrote:Map whatever you want to automate to a knob/fader/button, press record... correct errors/inaccuracies after.
but one thing i what u say , and another thing is what i say.
there are some types of automation u just cant do by hand, like a 0 to 100 percent change in less than a milisecond, or do you ?
is another kind of work.
both of them usefull
Re: Automation in live, way more tedious than in most Daws
Better automation in Live is definitely needed.

probably the best thing you can say about the multilane automation in Live is "it is there"
everything else about it is not so great.
I think the issues come from the incremental way that the interface has been built up, so by the time we arrive at Live8 every function must sit on top of an old interface.
If anyone does a lot of work in Arrangement they will have experienced the shoutfrenzy that occurs as you try to navigate to a drum in a group and open up three parameters for that drum, then scale the lanes, and zoom in so you can then edit the automation.
That process sounds like this:
fuck, shit, oh fucking hell, fucking shit, shitting, oh for fucks sake NO!, fucking ... , ah there it is .. , shit, where the fuck has it gone now??? , there, no , there, where, what/ wait WHAT? FUCK!!!
