How to configure instant mapping of ableton devices

Post by midihendrix » Tue Oct 19, 2010 8:35 am

Hi....I'm not happy with the default instant mapping of some of ableton's devices such as analog and operator.

I want to configure the instant mapping for my own needs.

I would simply group to a rack and save but I would need more than the 8 macro knobs that are provided.

Does anybody know a solution to this?

Thanks...

Unfortunately I think you're out of luck, with VST's you can configure which params you want, the order, and how many - ( up to 32 i think? ) but with ableton's instruments you can really only do what you've done so far..

You may find the solution in M4L as you'd be able to build a rack with many many dials and point them at the controls you want....

Hi, haven't tried it myself, but can you configure the switch bank buttons in the instant mapping script to access more than 8 parameters...?
Edit: hmmm... that wouldn't help with your own racks though, I guess, there's no way of having multiple banks on your own racks, right? ok, scrub that, as you were...

YEs that you can do, although i'm not aware of a master list of what's in control with each bank so it's a bit of a twiddle and see affair, and you then can't edit it so that it maps in the order you want it to...

Thanks for the responses everyone. It seems now that M4L or editing some unknown file would be my only options. M4L intimidates me so maybe this will be a good way to get into learning it. If I come up with a useful device I'll post it.

Definitely Max 4 Live is what you need to solve this problem, but if you want something quick, create a rack of racks.

I thought this wasn't possible, how do you do it?
