Sound is clicking - what can I do to fix it?

Post by carilive » Thu Oct 21, 2010 5:24 am

Watched a great tutorial here about sound quality, so I made the changes and I have this clicky, breaking up of sound issue. What do I need to do? I like the sound, but upset with the background track and its hiccups ... (I use Ableton Live 7)

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply - I will experiment some more with that, but so far no luck. I recorded with the Auto on and effects including Compressor (pump) and Reverb. I'm starting to think that is a no-no. It was so fun to play my flute into the mic and hear the "sound effects"!

Your computer is probably freaking out as the measures taken to increase sound quality lead also to increase in load on the computer. This results in pops and clicks as the sound cannot be processed fast enough.
Instead of going for the best quality settings, decrease them towards how they were step by step until you find the best quality/performance balance.

that advice a billion times, for SURE!

If you're on windows, I would add you have to instal ASIO driver, if it's not done yet.
then raise the audio buffer of this driver until the clicks and pops disappear.

If you're on mac, just raise the audio buffer.

Hope it will help you.
