I had a problem like this recently and it turned out that I was over driving my monitors.

I had Live operating just below 0db, the output was turned up high on my soundcard and the volume was set quite low on the monitors. I kept hearing a lot of distortion which I could not account for. Eventually I tried reducing the soundcard output and increasing the volume controls on the monitors and the distortion went away.

Parallel to the too a small buffer size of the driver (in most cases Asio is used) this is an important isse.
There is a big difference between the reference volume of home record volume (-10dBV) and professional volume (+4dBV).

Please have an eye on your reference volumes, also at your mixer and monitors.
please keep the same reference volumes!
For home use -10dBV is the best. especially when you buy additional outboard gear for home and DJ use.

The cool thing about techno still, comparing it to most jazz is the improvisation coupled with raw energy.
